6.0 chevy gas

Maybe you already have answered this, but are you manually checking the oil pressure? The stepper motors that run the gauges are known to go bad, as is the sender on the block.

have you tried another gauge if the valves are not clacking and rods are not knocking I would put another gauge on it just to make sure first

janicholson, just happined over night, every thing was fine then no oil pressure.....changed oil pump and O ring

with the oil pump and oil pan off, blow into the hole where the oil pump discharges with a rubber tip air nozzle. You'll see where the worst leak is pretty easily

Probably not you problem, but here is what I had with my 6.0. Got an oil change. After the oil change the oil pressure went to heck. Used to run 45+ on the gauge all of the time. After the oil change, it was around 20 or less all of the time. Oil level was fine. With a ton of miles on it, I assumed the gauge or sending unit was going. So...fast forward to the next oil change. After that oil change, the pressure was right back where it should be - 45+.
Did a bunch of reading on this - and the best thing I could find is that a junk oil filter can collapse, restricting the flow through it. The system relief then opens, and with the relief held open, the system pressure actually drops. You would think it would rise, but a handful of articles I read said the relief opening on a 6.0 will actually dump the pressure due to how the circuit is designed. I had a flow diagram too I cant seem to find at the moment.
I'm assuming if you went to all of the trouble to change the pump, you have changed the filter, but, maybe the relief is something to look at?

Cam bearings, buddy had one that did it, he got the replacement warrentied and they told him there was a fault in the early 6.0, the cam bearings wouldn?t stay tight in the aluminum block

My 6.0 in my 2001 gmc 3/4 ton 4x4 will lose oil pressure as soon as I get over 3000 miles on a oil change . I change the oil and filter and it's right back to normal ,which is 45 to 50 . I have used Valvoline synthetic since I got the truck with 43000 miles on it and have 165000 on it now. Fram filters are the worst for my truck. Delco filters were great until they changed #s and Most of the time I use a Bosch filter now and am going to try their best filter next to see how that goes. But aside from not getting more than 3000 miles on synthetic oil , it is getting changed every 3000 miles, and is always clean.

sounds like the bypass in the pump is stuck part way open not building pressure was the oil left to get real dirty? ether way looks like motor coming out

Google GM engine piston slap. I have a 01 6.0L, got the engine replaced. They were replacing engines if they were noisy enough. I had the extended warranty to 60,000 miles, had over 59,000 on it and got a new engine. There was a lawsuit on the early engines. I have 127,000 on the new engine they put in, the oil pressure still runs over 40 lbs. at idle. GM was replacing engines, but if you went in and ask----if you had one of the noisy ones they wouldn't admit it. I came home and printed off a few pages, took them in and within a week I got a new engine.
