California is on fire

Southern California has four major fires burning with little or no containment. Hundreds of homes already burned, thousand of acres also. Just north of me about 20 miles is a big horse area. A lot of horses have been killed today, a lot of horses are running loose is what the radio is saying. Hundreds art being relocated to a race track way south. Everything is so dry, plus we are experiencing high winds. Before it's over more houses will be burned. A lot of people just don't clear brush from around their buildings. The ones that do are limited to 100 feet from their structures. Beyond that if there is brush nothing is to be disturbed because of birds, bushes, and snakes. We can thank the tree hugger group for this brilliant plan. Stan

Same thing here in Colorado. They have closed a lot of logging roads and now the fire trucks can't get in to fight the fires, plus the logging roads used to make a break where the fire fighters could make a stand to stop the spread of the fire. So now the people that love trees so much, are the cause of the waste of thousands of acres of trees that could have been used to build new homes.

Go find yourself a copy of

Elizabeth Nickson "Ecofascists: how radical conservationists are
destroying our natural heritage"

And read with horror

I remember a few years back California started a program to clean up there forests. they wanted to start removing old dead trees and replant new ones. The enviromentalists took them to court and said they would destroy some worms and other habitat. well they won and now you see the results of that. I have a lot of trees on my property. I remove all the dead trees and limbs because of the fire danger. That stuff burns very quickly and if theres enough on the ground you cant stop it because it will spread so fast. I feel sorry for all those people who has lost there homes but there state government is not trying to help the problem. cleaning up the forest probably wont stop all forest fires but I bet you it will save a lot of houses and loss of life.

One guy almost touched on this and made me think of it.

The tree huggers ALSO now have to use lumber from MORE trees to rebuild their houses !

It's taken a long time but the forestry folks have realized that fire is an important part of the health of the forest. The lack of fire breeds insect and disease problems that kills the trees too. You just have to look at all the brown in our national parks to see this.

In this area of central CA we had the Detwiler fire but relatively few homes were lost compared to the Sonoma fires and now the southern CA fires. It is because here in this fire prone area people do maintain defensable space on their property. I have to think these urban fires are the result of allowing landscaping to become overgrown.

Fortunately here we got over 2 inches of rain and fire danger is over for now.Southern CA must not have gotten it.

It is best to clear land and maintain your property. That is if you have property some people down there only have a small peace of land and a big house on it. Those winds get up in speeds and are very strong some times. I use to stand out at 2:30 am waiting to be let in to a store to start work and watch bight flashes where power lines break off of the towers. I got a feeling that maybe this was started that way from Electrical power lines. The thing with fire if it gets fan on by wind it can really grow quick. Yes every body should maintain there land but sadly it does not happen.

I feel for people when they lose their home, but forest fires and prairie fires are all part of nature's plan to get rid of dead foliage etc.

When will the human race realize they are merely visitors on this planet?
