Deadline is Dec. 18, What have you Guys done about it? I run one truck and trailer, hauling tractors and machinery. Too much is unknown about costs, programs are hard to compare, untested equipment, etc. I'm waiting, hopeing for a delay, or exemption. What about you?

How old is your truck? Trucks older than 2000 are exempt.
You can look up the rules and see what else is exempt.

If the vehicle registration for a commercial motor vehicle reflects a model year of 2000 or newer, but the connections and motor vehicle components (such as the engine) are older than model year 2000, is the vehicle exempt from the ELD rule?

Yes. When a vehicle is registered, the model year should follow the criteria established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). There may be instances where the model year reflected on the vehicle registration is not the same as the engine model year, most commonly when a vehicle is rebuilt using a “glider kit.” In this circumstance, an inspector/investigator should use the model year on the engine to determine if the driver is exempt from the ELD requirements. If the engine model year is older than 2000, the driver is not subject to the ELD rule. In instances in which the engine model year is 2000 or newer, and the vehicle registration reflects a model year older than 2000, the driver is subject to the ELD rule. While the driver is not required to possess documentation that confirms the vehicle engine model year. 49 CFR Part 379 Appendix A, requires motor carriers to maintain all documentation on motor and engine changes at the principle place of business. If a determination cannot be made at the roadside, Law Enforcement should refer the case for further investigation.

Keep your pre 2000 engines.

If the serial number of the engine is older than a 2000 it is exempt regardless of the truck numbers.
For more best information call these people. OOIDA 800 444 5791. They can also set you up with a unit for a set price with no further service fees and such. I talked to them a couple of months ago about it. Also I just shut it all down because of all of this nonsense. I was like you ran 1 truck and 2 trailers. A step and an RGN.
I didn't want to put the money into my 91 to put it on the road.
I would if I had a borderline dated truck and engine get the documentation from the engine manufacturer and carry a copy in the truck as it might eliminate a lot of p matches at the scale.

Don't know what the big fuss is about.Been using electronic logs for the last 16 years where I work. I like them.

I understand that many use an electronic log for Company use. To me this is different, this is for Uncle Sam, probably only used for revenue $$$$.

Truck is a 2005 9900i. I check OOIDA website daily for new developments. No sense in spending money if deadline is postponed.

Do you run everyday long distance, if local within 100 miles logs are not needed just a time card, and if you only go outside that, i.e. where you need logs, less than 8 days out of 30 you are exempt and only need paper logs

Mark Your not having to stand the cost of all of the equipment and record keeping they cause. This is another reason we got out of the commercial trucking business 3 years ago.

The big companies are helping push this. They know they can drive the smaller/independent truckers out of business with the government's help.

The one thing they are not publishing is the studies that show how many more drivers it is going to take to move the same amount of freight. The drivers I know that are using it are getting crappy miles each week too. You have to be with a large enough company to drop and hook or your going to waste so may hours loading/unloading you will not get as many miles.
