Need BTU calculation help

I'm looking to get a heater for a 900 Square foot well insulated shop, with 8 foot ceiling. Needs to be able to heat to about 65?. Found a 5000 watt forced air electric heater that says that it puts out 17,000 BTU's. Is that enough for my purposes? Not in a cold climate- normally in the 40's in winter, gets into the 20's a few times, and if it gets colder that that I'll probably stay in the house anyhow!
 
not sure if this helps but I have 1200 insulated sq ft 10 ft walls and use a double head propane tank top 30,000 btu. Once the garage is warmed up with torpedo heater it keeps it at 58 on its lowest setting when it’s 30 outside.
 
Never mind- googled a BTU calculator, and it looks like that heater will be just about right for the room.
 
you need to calculate the R value of your walls,ceiling,and floor--then you can determine the total heat loss and number of BTU needed to heat to the temp you want
 
I have 1300 sf pole building. has 2" blanket insulation, so probably not as well insulated as your shop. I installed 2 7500 watt heaters, and couldn't get it as warm as i'd like. I installed small pellet stove. probably little more money to heat, but much warmer.
 
You'll be fine. I have ~800 square feet with 11 foot ceilings and heat with a single 4500W electric wall unit. Walls and ceiling have insulation. Since I have machinery in there, I set the thermostat at 60 and it stays there pretty easily. Similar temps to yours too. Average this time of year high is mid 40s and nights around 30.

Cost may bug you though. I'm paying about 8 cents per kWh so about 40 cents per hour the heater runs. Probably comes to about an extra $50-$75 per month on the power bill.
