Odd happening today...

I was sitting in the living room checking the news on the internet. Someone opens my front door and a couple walks in.

It's my neighbors from a couple of miles down the road. They are 88 years old and sharp as a tack (no dementia).

As they enter and I see them, I say howdy Joe and Arlene. They look surprised and kind of fumble for words. Finally, they say..."We thought you sold out and moved?"

I tell them that I did sell my place and was in the process of selling assets and packing so I can vacate the property.

After a few awkward minutes, they excused themselves ans left.

What the heck????

Greg1959,

They would not have received a welcoming response from me.

Around here, you will knock, ring a doorbell, yell HI, anything but traipse through another persons home. Whether they were known or not, they intruded.

That's how I see it. An intruder may not wish to find out how far I may dislike the entry of an uninvited "guest".

I am not violent, but still feel I have some say-so within my home.

D.

Sounds like everyone here in the neighborhood. Been here over 30 years everyone knows everybody. Don't
sit around in your birthday suit. Just open the door and holler.

That is weird, and not right. I never enter someone's house without them opening the door. The only exception is my mom and dad. Usually a lot going on there with all the grandkids.

must be an old folks thing. i have an older gent that hangs around at the shop. retired farmer. hes 83.wego on road trips during the day, and he will just pull in to any bodys farm and strike up a conversation. he will also stop and chat with the road crews doing road work, or pretty much anybody. some times i just scratch my head.

News, gossip and rumors do spread fast in small communities, but the accuracy drops a little every time the story is retold. One saying is "Around here everyone knows so much about everyone elses' business that you can't use the restroom without everyone knowing what color it was".

You might be surprised how many people will not answer their door for what ever reason or another. I handled property maintainance on several rental properties and had keys to them. I've all but kick the door down then walk completely through 800 to 1200 sq ft houses yelling "MAINTAINANCE SERVICE,ANYONE HOME"before the resident appeared and spoke up. I learned early on to search the place before beginning work, otherwise I might be taken for an intruder when discovered.

HAHA, yeppers, it sure seems like it.

I've known them them for 20+ years ...and to see them (88 years old) and respected members in our community to do what they did today, just blows my mind.

da.bees- maybe I didn't post it clear enough. I SOLD the property to another person. This couple came in on their own volition, uninvited. They are not workers/maintenance crew for the new owner.

If you have a smart phone before walking into a house turn it on to record. I had a tenant that was not paying the rent. I went to the house to collect and could not get her to answer the door. I hollered and hollered and no answer. Door was not locked so I pushed it open thru a broken screen door. Never steeped over the threshold. She comes around the corner screaming ans she was going to call the law because I walked in on her naked. I told her to go ahead and call I would be waiting for them. She did and when they arrived I told them I had a complete recording of what went on. Before I got out of my car I had turned my iPhone on to video record and had the audio of all that happened.

Okay, and then what happened?, you did not finish the story?????

All I can think is possibly they had been in contact with the new owners, a misunderstanding as to when the property would be vacated.

But still, why would they be snooping around? And I suspect that is what they were doing, snooping. Curious as to what they might find to feed the gossip mill.

From your previous description of the neighborhood, I would be keeping the door locked at all times!

Are these fine upstanding people members of any religious organization that would cause them to have concern for you or your possessions?

snoopers for sure...thieves maybe...nosey absolutely.....Maybe you should go down to their place and walk in on them...Your leaving the neighborhood anyway...give them something to talk about. gobble

If they in my house unannounced they would be starring at the the barrel of a Smith & Wesson. Word gets around pretty fast you don't want uninvited guests.

Must have something to do with cold weather because we have a rash of that about this time every year. Some old coot dressed in red go's around laughing loudly, entering homes uninvited to leave toys for children.

(quoted from post at 04:18:37 12/02/17) One has to wonder what they would have done if they hadn't seen you.

Here is an idea that might leave you with the picture in your head all day..................

They were looking for some excitement with a little blue pill in a house that is not theirs.

Kirk ...... not that the article below in the link would necessarily have a place in this discussion about the fellow and his neighbors and your reply to his post, but it probably might shed some light on how quick some gun owners are with regards to pulling out a gun and maybe even shooting somebody. It's the first thing that comes to mind I guess in some places and by some people. Are there countries with higher rates of gun deaths and murders? Of course there are ...... but none are developed nations with a high standard of living. They are light years behind in the basic principals of civilized and democratic society. Anyways, read through it, rather interesting statistics.
Gun death rates

Ok I get your point. The US has a higher rate because the judges turn the criminals back on the street to do it again. If you can defend yourself in your own home than where?

MarkB_MI- "One has to wonder what they would have done if they hadn't seen you."

I agree. LOL
