Baling Oat Straw With the NH 847

Some video of me baling oat straw after harvest. The 847 tends to block up on the pickup if the straw is too dry so I have to wait for a morning when the humidity is up a bit and then the straw flows better. The straw from the axial flow combine tends to be a bit short which is likely the biggest problem. Makes good bedding straw for the cattle though.
Baling With the 847

I have an 847 I use as a backup to the 851 balers I like it but the bales are small seems like I hardly get going before I need to stop and tie another one. Also
go to Tractor Supply and get one of those long red hay hooks they're great for pulling hay out when it gets stopped up.

Yes, they are a small bale but it works for my small farm. Might be too much for the old Massey to pick up and carry a bigger bale, I don't know. And just in case anybody was wondering, yes, I do shut down the baler to unplug the straw. Heard too many stories of guys getting pulled into the baler and not living to tell the tale.

nice video, how far to your nearest neighbor, I also can't see any power poles in the video, do you have power brought in or do you make your own ??

Nearest neighbour little over a mile cross country in the field I was baling. We are spread pretty thin. Sure do appreciate the underground power they dug in back in the 80s. Prior to that we had to watch out and avoid hitting poles with equipment.
