I have one similar to this.

It does just about everything I need.

The DC amp feature comes in handy, especially for automotive use.

They can be bought online, lots of sources. I can justify the cost because it gets used a lot. There are lesser brands out there, just be sure you are comfortable with the quality. Be careful going too cheap. Same time, buying one walking into an electrical supply house, without an account, you will be greatly overcharged!
Fluke

I mean an ammeter gauge for a 1953 Ford tractor. The original just had a loop in it, the replacement one has 2 posts. +B and +L and idk how to hook that up on a 6v positive ground system

I thought that the question was about a clamp-on too.

Cut the original wire add connectors with eyelets and hook it up. If it reads backwards reverse the connections. Figure this into you make up on the new harness just encase you have to switch the wires...

I took the original wire put eyelet on and
hooked it to the +L side and than ran a
wire form +B post to we're the old wire use
to connect to. It did nothing.

OK, I understand now!

I don't know of that type being made now. Just have to do a lot of searching, might find a NOS, or send your original away and have it reconditioned. That would probably be unrealistic unless you are going for show quality perfection.

As for wiring the one you have, just cut the wire, solder on some eye terminals, connect them to the studs. If it works backward, reverse the connections.

Are the amp numbers close to the same as the original?

Some of the aftermarkets are for use with a high amp alternator, and have higher readings, which will hardly move with low amp generator.

It is good they got away from that type cut the wire and put ends on it and put things in as should have been when new.
