I have a 1951 IH 300 Utility tractor. I can run thru all gears while engine is stopped. While it is running I cannot put in any gears. It makes a loud grinding sound and will not go into any gears. Help this tractor is one of my family. It runs perfect!

Most likely, the lined clutch disc is stuck/rusted to the flywheel and/or pressure plate and not releasing.

Sometimes simply blocking or tying the clutch pedal down for a few days will make it pop free, some guys swear by spraying brake clean on the clutch though whatever opening/port there is in the clutch housing (if possible).

Others start it in gear (be careful, do it at your own risk) and driving the tractor around with the clutch pedal depressed while doing heavy braking to break it loose.

Could be a couple of other things, as well, including a lined disc that's come apart, a cracked pressure plate, or a clutch release finger(s) that's been damaged, broken, miss-adjusted or worn off by a stuck throwout bearing.

When you are sitting on the tractor, on the left side of the tractor there is a pedal near your foot. Push this pedal with your left foot before trying to put the tractor in gear.

Lol I'm pretty sure he knows that, I
imagine the disk is stuck or the
pressure plate itself has broke inside

Have you been using it regularly or are you just now getting it going after a long time in storage? If the latter, I would suspect what these guys are telling you.
