8N Won't run

I just purchased a 8N not running. When I try to start it, it turns over fine and all of a sudden it back fires and a flame came out of the carb. I checked the firing order and point gap and everything seems good. Has anyone got an idea what could cause this?

Try this. close your fuel shutoff. DRAIN the fuel with the plug on the bottom of the carb. After it drain and plug is installed back it. pull the choke out about 1/2 way. open your shut off valve couple turns and try to start it immediately and see what happens. then report back.

Sounds like timing is 180 off.

What all have you done?

Could be an ignition timing problem.

Check the spark quality at each plug, should jump 1/4 inch from the wire to ground. Go through the static timing process to be sure the timing is correct.

Being it was bought not running, assume nothing!
