I just came from our local Walmart. Black Friday started a 6pm today. It was unreal.

Anyway I got what I went for, a Samsung 3 Chromebook I've been wanting. $70 off. Haven't tried it yet, the instructions say to fully charge the battery before first use, so that's what it's doing.

I went with wife to Herbergers in River Hills Mall. Black Friday started at 11:00 am. today. I just went to do some mall walking but had to go through store to get to hall. People were lined up outside for open. I shoved my way through and got to hall. I was only one in hall but when she called to say we could go now, getting back through Herbergers was a nitemare.

Mills Fleet Farm ran some nice ads yesterday... "we are closed on Thanksgiving- we want our staff to have the day with family. The bargains can wait til Friday."

I liked that, even though our business,a dairy farm, had to be staffed today.

Rural king opened at 7 this morning,I arrived at 7:05 to find the parking lot almost full. When I get in store the carts were all gone but I found a big flat bed cart and fought my way thru. Batteries were 25% off so I got a set for the 240 and 4250 as well as 4' LED shop lights for $19 apiece. Threw on a few bags of rabbit feed ,sweet feed and scratch grains while I was there.

I meant to add that we were in Washington DC some years ago when the Play Station 2 came out. It was worse. People waited in line for two days, and then after it went on sale people who had bought one were getting mugged in the parking lot.

SWMBO wanted to go to get a bike cheap for the G-daughter. Absolute madness. We were waiting there, and at 6 it was like the starting gates opened at the race track. SWMBO says she'll never do that again.......

We don't/won't shop anymore on Black Friday. Even online, I've been watching a few different items lately and just in the past 2 or 3 days, have seen prices jump up on these items. I have no doubt there will be good sales, but compared to what? ...And at what risk? Spend all that time and energy waiting in lines and fighting traffic, and HOPING to get what you're looking for? It's such a buying frenzy that folks get to where many don't care how much they pay, so long as they "get in on the deals"! I saw one time the last of an item in a store that several people wanted. 2 or 3 different people started throwing out offers. Highest bidder ended up paying a lot more than retail. Really stupid!

Believe it or not I and the wife have never went to a Black Friday sale..We dont like crowds and lines..

Never wanted to, never needed to, never will.
Funny how material stuff becomes less important when your closer to the end than the beginning.

Wife and I just came from Walmart. Yes it was crowded! But after I figured out the lines. A worker helped me get in the proper line. They then marked me down to get the smart phone.$199 off. Made sure there was one for me. Just took about 15 minutes to check out. Pretty good wages for a hour of my time. Also was like old home week. I probably knew a quarter of the people there. Wife saved about $100 in same time. Wrangler jeans were $10 she got 6 pair. Plus a Dvd player. Forgot price.

I had to take my son back to Fargo. He's going through a divorce and can't do much about his car until that's settled. Coming back about 6:15PM I noticed the Walmart parking lot in Fergus Falls MN was packed. I've never seen so many cars in that lot sense they opened. I will be staying home tomorrow.

I don't bother with the Thursday deals, we go to wopifesfamily for Thanksgiving. Can't believe herbergers opens at 11:00. At least the other stores opening at 6:00 or so is after some family time. But 11:00 in the morning, crazy.

I do a few modest places on Friday morning. Local Runnings and Menards are not too crazy. And the small Sears place for a few tools. Went to Mankato years ago one Friday morning, oh my. I just laughed walking through the Best Buy, nothing I wanted bad enough to stand in that line, the carts were looped around the store more than one lap. Was crazy!

Thanksgiving has become a day where families set down and give thanks for what they have....then run out and buy things they think they need.

While I like people , I like them a few at a time. Don't go running from crowds but , I certainly am not attracted to them. And these kind of feeding frenzy , are just created by the stores , to demonstrate the control which they whield on the market.

Had to make a emergency trip to Wally World last night to get Otis some dog chow. Got in and out as fast as I could. Why do they call it Black Friday when it starts at 6:00 pm on Thursday? Otis was thankful when I got home with dog chow!

Sweet feed is for the horses and goats, pelleted corn with molasses. Scratch grains are cracked corn, millet, wheat and other small grains that I throw out for the chickens, guineas and peacocks.

I think I'm going to like it.

I attend a lot of meetings, and I bought this to pull up email and documents saved on a flash drive during meetings instead of lugging my laptop around. I'll still probably use my laptop in some situations, but this Chromebook is another option.

HOBO- I remember back in the early 70's HECKS Department
stores have what they called "DOOR Buster" sales.

People would line up outside the entrance doors and wait
for the manager to unlock them. Then the rush was on,
just like they do today.

"Heck's, Inc. was established in 1959 by Fred Haddad, Tom
& Lester Ellis, and Doug Cook.

Heck's stores were discount, stand alone department
stores found in small cities throughout West Virginia,
western Maryland, the Ohio Valley, and parts of Indiana &
Kentucky. Its structure and product lines were similar to
its competitors, Fisher's Big Wheel, Hills Department
Stores, G.C. Murphy's Mart, Tempo and Buckeye Mart Stores
and Walmart.

Part of Heck's expansion into the Midwest came after
acquiring a smaller discounter, T-Way Stores. It also
acquired Mr. Wiggs of Indiana and Ohio in 1981.[1]

At its peak in the 1980s, Heck's operated 170 stores
throughout West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania,
Indiana, Maryland and Virginia. Forbes Magazine ranked
Heck?s third nationally in profitability and growth in
1980, beating out Kmart."

My father told about during the drouth and depression in the 1930's when feed was scarce he bought a 55 gallon drum of molasses. He'd warm the molasses until it was fluid and sprinkle it over wheat straw with a sprinkling can for his horses. I guess the horses really went after it.

Goose and others, isn't injecting corn stalk bales, as they are doing know, very simular to what your granddad did in the past?

I avoid the Black Friday rush and stay away from all the stores, but today my co-worker just HAD to go to WalMart to pick up some hunting supplies and I ventured into the store at that time. It was a ghost town at that time and the only action was a few double-wide residents picking through the DVD section. The rest of the store was bare of customers. I only went in to pick up a few 32-gig memory sticks that they had for $5/each and after hitting the self-checkout, I went on my merry way.
