Just sold the place today. I'm tired of the idiot druggies and thieves trying to steal everything not nailed down.

Gonna buy a camper and spend a year or two driving around the USA looking for a new place.

This area has gone plumb nuts due to the pill heads. The stories I could tell you. GEESH!

I didn't want this to turn into a RANT by me.

I'm out.

Have fun and don't forget to write. I'd like to have you as a neighbor, but to be honest, things aren't much better around here.

How close are you to the Gap? I have a step grandson berried just on the south side. Was 23 month old when he died.

don't know anything about your personal situation but find a traveling companion if you do not have one. traveling solo gets tedious.

Just learned about this recently. Travel and work a bit if so inclined.

There are many websites, here is one.

(quoted from post at 14:20:59 11/22/17) Slap dab in the middle of the Oxycontin Triangle....East Kentucky.

Oh you guys are peanuts compared to the druggies and dealers and ODs and drug deaths here in NH. Heck, it seems like our small town (4400) rescue goes on two ODs a week.

craig2- Heroin and Fentinyl (SP) ODs are happening here too. Narcan is breaking the local EMS and taxpayers hard, Some are going broke paying for Narcan.

your doing exactly what I want to do. get me a camper and head out . sadly I don't think my health is going to hold up to do so. There is tons and tons of web site and chat rooms for full timers just look around if you haven't already

I may sound hard but I say forget about giving them any of that stuff and wait to haul them in untill directly to the funeral home to get ready for burryial If they want to KILL themselves let them do it.

well theres part of the problem, let the die... natures way of weeding out the stupid....locally there was a overdose at a homeless shelter, two days before this same guy had been revived at a shelter.....

tn terry t- Thanks for the suggestions. I've been
watching/reading those kind of sites for a while. They are
very informative and offer some great ideas.

PS- BTW, I'm tired and I understand that I won't be able
to cut, haul, buck, split and stack firewood in my later
years....Plus, I can't see the cost savings for using
firewood. Been using firewood as my only source of heat
for 22 years.

FLOLDFORD- Thanks for the offer.

No set plans. Thinking about playing Mumblety-peg with a Map of the US and see where the knife sticks and head in that direction. I've used this method many times before to decide where to go on vacation.

showcrop- LOL, well....you know that us Hillbillys were
always UNDERperformers! Heck, we can't ever get drug abuse
right!

LOL

centash- I plan on checking out north of the border also.

Heck, the US may not let me back in, once I leave...lol..

larry@stinescorner- I ain't leaving this site unless Kim boots me. I'm gonna keep checking in on you, Corner Guy.

Leroy- "How close are you to the Gap?"

Are talking about the Cumberland Gap? If so, I'm around 3 to 4 hours away.

Kinda sorry to see you go.....you have given good advice. Guess you will still be on here some. I see the opium crisis on tv all the time...I dont go to town much...so out of the picture. But didnt know it is that bad out there. Enjoy your travels....lots of days I feel like doing the same... good luck !

Greg1959 I seen a news cast couple weeks ago on the situation you folk where having over there
That's a real sad deal, I used to deliver fuel storage tanks to Eastern Ky and WV back in the 90's when coal was doing good. Meet a lot of nice folk there.
I'm west of Louisville and the oxy hasn't got bad here yet but there's plenty meth users around.

I've been hearing about druggies parking at fire stations and EMS, than taking lethal doses of drugs just to see how much higher they can get, they know those places have Narcan to keep them from dying.

Friend on another forum used his pickup to deliver RV's and trailers all over the US can Canada, RV builders in northern In. are always looking for movers, no CDL needed.

Told my guy's at the fire house we weren't going to carry Narcan, if druggies want to OD and die, let the coroner deal with it.

Yea when it comes to that I'm a hard a--, but dad beat into me to be responsible for my actions, I am but I don't have to be responsible for theirs.

Good luck in your travels, I spent 30 years traveling the country in a semi, there's several places I'd like to go back to and visit, there's a few places I never want to see again.

The wife and I have plans to travel through SD, ND, Mt in the next few years when we turn the farming operation over to some of the younger family members, maybe make a big swing and see the Hover Dam and Grand Canyon too.

(quoted from post at 18:23:59 11/22/17) That makes 3 0f us. If they want to that stupid let em go. Less tax $ wasted. RB

Well all three of you may want to think of the repercussions of what you are asking for. You think narcan is expensive? just think of paying all the attorney's bills defending the municipalities against the ambulance chasing lawyers that will be lining up to sue on behalf of the survivors. It is the same as caring for a prison inmate for life, it is still a lot cheaper than the legal trail to try to get a death penalty.

I would want you to rethink carrying narcan. Here in Ohio a cop almost died from getting just a bit of powder on him ! At least keep it for your guys in case of contact !

Destroked 450- "Told my guy's at the fire house we
weren't going to carry Narcan, if druggies want to OD and
die, let the coroner deal with it."

First of all Thanks for your suggestions. I greatly
appreciate them.

Now to your statement that I quoted...How/who appointed
you, to decide whether a person lives or not? Don't you
feel, as an EMT/Firefighter, that you do not have the
right to make those decisions?

Thanks

Greg 1959,

Safe travels and great adventures to you!

Can't recommend settling in MN...
the 6-month winters "get to ya" after awhile. LOL

Check in when you can and keep us apprised of your adventures.

Its a real shame that such a beautiful area of the country is now apparently pretty much uninhabitable due to drugs and crime. Good luck on your new adventure, lots of great places to live out there.

Well I wish you happy travels. The meth heads got real bad around here about 7-8 years ago. It seems to have settle down now.

My wife has family in WV and they talk about how bad it has gotten there. Big "O" crashed the coal business and that has cause a lot of heart ach.

Ultradog...... now there's a book I should hunt down and read again for maybe the 4th time. Great story and Steinbeck saw so many changes happening. One was having coffee in a paper or styrofoam cup somewhere for the first time, that really bothered him I remember. It was like the reader was travelling in that little camper of his with him and his dog, great story.

Because I'm the Fire Chief, but when it was discussed only 3-4 of the 16 fire fighters expressed a willingness to learn how to administer Narcan, it was pretty much a majority rule so I enforced it.
Every med run we go on is to support the ambulance crew, we may get there a minute or two ahead but they are close behind.
We are a small dept with no EMT's or Paramedics. We're trained on the basic's of CPR and AED use, anything beyond that we are more liable to be sued and jailed for attempting to do a medical procedure than not.
Any OD calls we go on cops are also called, they carry Narcan and they almost always get there before us, we're limited to 65 mph with fire trucks so if any of my crew that out runs a cop with a fire truck they will be kicked off the dept for driving recklessly.
That in it's self opens up a hole nother can of sue happy lawyers if they have a accident in a fire truck will driving to fast.

What is the average education level of these "Fire-
Fighters" that you supervise?

Then, if you can't answer the question....why did you
reply?

So, basically, the laws already prevented

Good luck and have fun on the road. Just remember at $30-40 a night in an RV park will eat up a lot of $$$$ in a couple of years. Maybe you should keep this map and sponge off of a few of us YT'ers :D

Ride around spend up your money then what are you going to do? Drug heads are everywhere these days I guess I'm pretty lucky for neighbors have mostly upscale retired ex-city folks that
are really pretty good people as a whole and have very few of the drug heads in the immediate area,go 5 miles and its a whole different deal.

That?s my sentiments exactly. If they don?t care why should we ?Not much lost.just have to keep supporting them.

JDSeller, I have two questions, just for clarification.

"Settled down" or died off?

The "Big O." Is that the letter O or the number 0 (zero)? LOL!

Try to find a job somewhere like the Red River Valley. Lots of retirees in campers go up the during the sugar beet harvest. I believe they even pay for the campsites for them. I saw it on America's Heartland TV show a few years ago.

There's an idea! Head up to PA next year, and help Larry get the garden in! One of you can run the 8N and the other can run the 2000!

He'd do it for you!

Yes, there is work up here, and not too many druggies. Beet harvest is usually the first two weeks of October. If you can drive a tractor/truck shouldn't be a problem finding work. Someone with farm experience should be able to work from mid-august to early November without too much trouble.

(quoted from post at 18:03:33 11/23/17) almost every morning there drug arrests reported on local news
why do people use this stuff?

What they keep saying on the news is that until a year or so ago whenever anyone went to the Dr. with lower back pain they would give them 6 months worth of oxycontin, and by that time many were hooked. I got it after knee surgery but I took it for only two days after I got out. I think that some people are much more susceptible than others. After their scrip runs out they have to go to black market or dealer.

What I don't understand is how do the drug dealers get the stuff to sell to the druggies? They have to have the ingrdiants so where do they get them? That is a drug made by the pig lichenced drug makers so how does the illegal stuff get out there? Sounds like no security at the manufactur and somebody is steeling it to let the street dealers get it. And you never hear of anybody higher up getting cought. Know bad speller.
