I recently purchased a 25 acre property and they currently have a 2007 Foton 404 tractor for sale. I have never really heard of this tractor and have read good and bad reviews, which is normal since many people tend to be partial to particular brands. The tractor looks new, barn kept, and has 270 hours. Its 4WD and has a large bush hog, along with a box scraper. The owner is asking $6k for all. Is this a good deal or just stay away from that brand all together. I will use it to mow and move around round rolls as needed. The owner can't provide much information about the tractor since it was her husbands who has passed away. Thanks.

From what I have seen they have absolutely no resale value. That always concerns me.

All tractors are great when they're working. It's when they break down that the differences are more apparent.
Your main issue with the Foton is that it is not a very common tractor, and if you need help with fixing it, not many people are going to know much/anything about it to help you.

Name brand tractors are like that too when you get into the more modern models, but at least you have dealers that you can send it to for service. With Foton, I've only found one dealer in all of the USA so far. That could be an issue for both parts and fixing things that are over your head mechanically.

One potential saving grace is that Chinese manufactured tractors are often sold under several brand names, with some brands having better dealer support than others. This may be worth doing some research on. If you can find that the Foton 404 is the same tractor as a dozen others from other brand names, and one of those brand names has a dealer in your area, that might sway your decision.

Of course there are some people who can just tear into things instinctively and figure them out. If you're one of those it might be

And the parts one would need the same as the one you want to be using.

I see they are made in China, I would stay away from it. It is going to be like everything else this counter needs to defend itself when the hammer fals withNK and China sides with them and quits providing anything the US depends on for military.
