(quoted from post at 19:40:27 11/07/17) Here in Southern Ind , neighboring CLARK Co has a referendum to rebuild their schools ,,. its has been a lively ugly campaign
of stretched truthes , horror stories , and growing pains,,.all caused by enempt managers ,,. My harrison Co Property Tax Bill is funding our schools over 75%. The lions share has been that way for 50 yrs or more .And Difficult to change .
sadly It SEEMS To MOST all Govm't does is spend other peoples money... i served 12 yrs in my county council and commissioner ,,..Everyone there ALWAYS tried their level best to wisely move forward or hold back if need to for spending to get the Best Bang for the BUCK . What always "got my goat" was when we had to tear out and rebuild something that was 20 yrs old because of new FEDERAL regulations ,,. Failure to do so could get our County in a lawsuit. There Were many like that .Copy mavhines ,i inherited a County internet server that was a shameful Boon Doggle of confusion when , i 1st joined the Commissioner Board . We Fixed That money sink hole.
Another one was bridge load weights ,.every 2 yrs all bridge structures have to be evaluated for safe weight passage... That "Seems like a very good idea ",But after the I-35 Bridge failure in Minnesota,. most all the firms that do bridge studies risk insurance got reevaluated by the insurance companies. They must have really put the fear in them Good Too ... consequently every 5 x 8 ft concrete culvert that we were crossing semis and log trucks for 50 years ,overnite were not safe for a school bus to cross./ Common Sense WENT OUT THE WINDOW The Bridge firms simply put 2 ton limits on all of them .. Now ,with the culvert tagged 2 tons ,,if such a bridge failed it would be on the county risk if someone got hurt ., We had no choice but to rebuild those bridge culverts ,.,Most were built rite after WW 2and were built STRONG . and had another 50 yrsof service left in most peoples opinion...But?! CONCRETE DOES AGE and fail over time According to engineers studies .To complement those findings , the roads needed widened anyway . so just as well do it all in one pulling job.. However , I will Always Believe We spent a lot of money to avoid the fear of getting sued should one culvert fail and hurt someone .
