...get this danged cold that is going around? I usually just breeze right thru but this thing took me off my feet for a day and a half and I still feel pretty raunchy. Only good thing is while I am recovering I can get some desk time and out of the weather for a bit. :)

I'm knocking on wood so hard that my knuckles are bleeding, but I haven't had a cold since I started using the elliptical, and that's been almost two years now. I thought sure I'd catch one a month or so ago. I was riding in the pickup with my son and he was coughing and sneezing up a storm. Either it was just allergies or somehow I managed not to catch it even after close contact in a closed space.

When I get a cold, in three days it turns into rhinitis which incapacitates me. I take both oral and inhaled antihistamines, along with a steroid spray and Mucinex daily. When I get a little stuffy I step the frequency up.

Don't know if it's what you have, but wife and I both kept passing something back and forth. Seemed to last a couple weeks, but we each went through it about 3 times! Hers settled into her chest but mine didn't. Our systems are still a bit weak from all that mess, and the last of it was about a month ago.

Wasn't sick until about a week after our last doctor visit......just enough time for a cold to set in!

I don't get colds or the Flu. I have never had a Flu shot in the past 20yrs.- very bad reaction from one many moon back. I have become a recluse since retirement, and most everything that I need, I can have delivered to my door, with a phone call. (I'm referring to welding supplies, steel, for my projects, and repair parts for my tractors and equipment. The wifey goes to town once a week for essentials, meat, toilet paper and beer, HeHe. We depend heavily on our garden for most of our food. Vegies, milk, cheese and water can make store bought meat, chicken, and fish go a long ways.
I truly believe that my life style and lack of contact with the general population, and eating habits have reinforced my immune system from most common ailments. I also believe that when I was receiving radiation treatments for cancer, that those treatments reduced my potential for acquiring those nuisance ailments. The doctors also put some PEX tubing in my hydraulic system, so my oil is making it to the pump again. Back to making the relief valve open on occasion again. HeHe

Do you have grandkids? I was telling a friend recently that the reason she had a cold is that she has grandkids! We don't have any and don't get colds, and I had the flu 17 years ago, been getting the shot ever since and it works for me.

I agree with Loren and the other posters who have limited contact with people. In my work I am generally not in close contact with people. My wife and daughter though are. They rarely get sick and neither do I. Usually one small cold in the fall and one when it gets warm in the spring. My brother's family and my sisters are constantly sick. Nephews and neice between 3-5. Stay away from the little ones !

A couple years ago, we went to dinner, with 6 adults. One of their daughters showed up with a very sick kid. Every single adult got sick, 2 older guys ended up in the hospital. That group hasn't got together since.

2 out of 3 of our kids have graduated now so we only have one left to bring home the newest strain of flu.

Not saying I am somewhat of a hermit but I figure once our daughter graduates I will be able to identify who to blame if I do get sick.

That's one of our pet peeves. Can't stand it when someone who deals with the public is "obviously" sick, yet still allowed to work at the register, or handling your food, etc. I can understand people not wanting to take a sick day off, but for cryin' out loud, why won't the employer or manager try to swap out employees until the sick one gets better again?? (Yes, I know...can become a pretty involved issue in some jobs)

Yes, just getting over the worst cold I have ever had. Ears and throat hurt like heck. I went to the doctor because I thought I was getting a sinus infection.Turned out to be a cold.

Not a cold but Pneumonia. Had it for two months now. Just when I think it is gone,it comes right back.Doc says the Agent Orange exsposure is not helping any.

Nope, since the wife and I dropped all processed foods a few years ago have also not got a cold. We like to make sure we get some greens in our diet every day. I am in contact with other people who are sick but doesn't seem to affect us. We eat to support our immune system.

When our kids were in school , they would just start back in September , and the whole family would have a cold before October. And it seemed to me that we would all get over it and then one of the boys would start the cycle all over again. Schools are great germ redistribution centers.
Now with the boys grown , and two of the three not living in our home any more, we don't get colds very often, even though my wife works in a public library.

During refueling outages at work like we are in right now, we bring in 800-1200 contract workers, who bring along ailments ranging from the common cold to SARS, leprocy and the Plague. Virtually everyone gets sick at some point. I try to expose myself (YES) to as much as possible by licking all the doorknobs.
