I bought my first tractor to use on my 28 acres in 1996. It was a 1939 farmall H WITH a Brush hog on it. Located about 3 miles from my house. PAID 1100 for it and drove it home. Fist thing I used it on was an old 1959 chevy that the rear axle was in the dirt out of sight and the front axle about 1/2 way in the dirt. Been there for several years. First log chain I broke so I got my very big log chain out. The old H groaned and when the governor grabbed ahold that old chevy came flying out of the ground. That's my first tractor and experience with it. How about rest of you.

71 john deere 4320. Had an electrical fire under the dash and a cab. Convinced myself to buy it, fix, then resell. The resell part never happened and doubt it ever will.

H John Deere. Bought it when I was a junior in High School. Gave $30 for it.---Tee

'55 Ford 640 about 2 years ago. Bought it with a Bushhog to clear our new property. 2 weeks later added a '56 Ford 960. Got 5 tractors now ,and bought and sold 2 others. I may have caught classic tractor fever. Lol Kevin in Central AL

1943 allis chalmers model c. My wondrful wife bought it for me with baby sitting money for christmas! I got it running and useable and used it to start my garden plowing business. I have had several other tractors since then. The Fords i have owned were so much more user friendly that the old allis just sat under the trees and got excercised evry now and then. I finally let someone else enjoy it. She bought it about 1996 for 400 dollars. The allis taught me a lot and made good memories! I still have my first and only wife, working on 33yrs!

930 case, bought it my senior year. Only kept it a couple years but really liked that tractor.

First tractor my wife and I bought with just us and no one else signing for it would be the T4030 NewHolland loader we got last winter.

AC One Seventy diesel, with a cracked block. It was in good shape, but was cheap because of the block. I messed with it for a few years, then traded it. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have replaced the engine and kept it.

1951 John Deere B with M&W pistons, was stuck when I got it senior year of high school, sold it to help pay for college.

An oliver 77 that grandpa sam bought new in 1950. dad got it when moms dad retired and sold everything to dad. he gave it to me after high school. dad had pretty much destroyed it by then and it barely ran. i have got it running pretty well and use it to feed the sheep in the winter.

WD Allis when in ninth grade. Paid $500 for it. Sold it to pay for parts to fix a 3010 Deere that I bought, got it back a few years latter and sold it again. I should have kept it the second time but it needed an overhaul and there are just no jobs on our farm that it fit anymore. Tom

1977 Kubota L285 with FEL. Handy and my only tractor for well over a decade. Actually started my masochistic hobby haying adventures with it. This tractor literally paid for all the junk that came after with it with zero money coming from my real job money. Reinvigorated me to add 7 more antique clunkers to the fleet to tinker/play with and relive old memories all along the way.

Model 60 JD, bought in 1971 - farmed it for a year before I figured out it was only running on 1!Still got it, 'semi restored' and lives in a heated shop.

(quoted from post at 18:32:47 11/05/17) I bought my first tractor to use on my 28 acres in 1996. It was a 1939 farmall H WITH a Brush hog on it. Located about 3 miles from my house. 1957 Allis Chalmers D17 gas...I was 29 years old living in Michigan and had just bought 18 acres with my girlfriend. I was looking for a WD45 diesel like I grew up on, but settled for this one at auction for $1200. Sold it when we moved in '91. Have bought many more since then....

Ferguson to-20 with huppt trans 2 bottom plow and rear blade bought in 1949 and still have bill of sale 995.00

1964 Western Special 930 Case. 20 years old and had rented a 1/2 section and a 80. Started milking cows also and the equipment to farm the land. The year was 1968.

first tractor i bought was my ford jubilee in the late 90's, i drove that one for 20 years before that the first one i drove by myself was grandpas farmall c, in the mid 1960's

1986 Massey Ferguson 240 in 1999 when we bought our average. Sold/gave it to our oldest son who lives nearby and runs several head of cattle. He still has it with near zero problems. Been many since, including new and vintage.

A 1960 model TO35 Ferguson.

Co-owned by 3 of us, inherited from the owner when he died in a motorcycle accident.

We had been in possession of it for years, had managed to keep it running. He didn't care anything about it and had pretty much let it waste away sitting out in the weather.

After the accident, his widow didn't want it, told us we could have it. That's when it got restored to a working tractor and now looks great!

Came with a box blade, later acquired a mower, disc, and a post hole digger. Mostly gets used for mowing.

First tractor I00owned was a 1940 JD H. It was really rough when I bought it but I repaired all the problems and used it for 25 years. Then I restored it and showed it at EXPO in 2011. Still have it. First tractor I ever drove was Dad's 1948 Allis B, and I have that one too.

1944 Model C Allis-Chalmers, with two row cultivator, when I was a sophomore in HS, about 1959.

36 or 37 WC Allis Senior in High Skool. Had rod and chunk out of block. Had piece that went in block. Got rod and other parted out one. Got to run but not good. Took to Vo-Tech had farm side find out and fix what was wrong with. I was taking Auto mechanics. Keep couple years then sold it. That's what got my vintage tractor addiction.

MM U-302 Super LP. Bought it in 1974 with 120 hours on it. Was my main tractor on 80 and then 360 acres until 1980. Still have it and still use it on my farm though now just for chore work with the hog operation.

My first tractor was a brown 1948 Farmall H my FIL bought for me when I started farming in 1969,used it all thru farming years and now it is a show tractor.

Pete

A pink plastic Hubley farmallish tractor with one rear wheel backward. it was about 3 inches long. Jim

Wife and I bought our first place in spring of '72, and had no machinery to put up the 25 acres of hay, so we hired a guy. He did the hay, we paid him, and he said he'd be back in a few days to haul home his 8N Ford with MF Dyna-Balance mower. After a month or so I called, and he said he had taken such a beating doing custom hay that he'd rather just sell the outfit to me, for $900. I grew up with an 8N (the only tractor my dad had when he was dairying), so I knew what I was getting. I sold it a couple of years later to a guy with a goat dairy, and I think he still has it.

My 49 8-N
When we purchased our home in'96, it didn't take long to realize that I needed more than a wheelbarrow to clean up and maintain the 2.25 acres our new home is on. Little tractor has paid for itself 20 times plus. Got the tractor bug and now have 9 old tractors that I play with. Love my 8-N, just tonight was out on a moonlight ride with it....Tom

It was a 1969 IH 235, with a 5ft Woods finish mower. Gave it to my Dad @ 15 years ago and he still uses it to mow on his farm.

1945 Oliver 70 standard. My father bought for me when I was 13 years old after having all summer. The motor was seized tight. My great uncle Jack fixed it the following fall. I've still got it almost 30 years later.

I bought a 430 Case at a auction in 1981 , the year I started milking cows. Paid $2,000.00 for it , ran it for 8 years and sold it for $2,200.00 . Needed the cash to buy a 530 Case Diesel. Foolishly , I sold the 530 as well to buy a Brand new 5640 4wd cab loader Ford. While the Ford was a great tractor, I regretted selling the other two tractors almost right away.

After buying a 20 acre farm in 1996, my first tractor was a JD 1070 MFWD with a loader and brush hog that had less than 100 hours on the clock. Used it to take care of 10 acres of filberts. Second tractor was a JD 4100 with a bucket and belly mower for my other half. The pair have been great workhorses. After getting things on the farm in order, restored a Farmall Cub and a D2 Cat for fun.

my first and still the newest is a '56 JD 420W, have had it since '68 and still use it with other older ones

At my Grandfather's Estate sale, there were 6 Silver King tractors. I bought the only one that He purchased New in 1941. I live in a village, not on a farm, still have it 40 years later.

We had the links all welded together so I could push with the Deere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!---Tee

1973 John Deere 2120 that my dad bought new. I got it in 1980 when I took over dad's milking herd. Still on the farm and will be as long as I am . Ben

1927 J.D. model D. Bought it in 1963 When I was in fifth grade. Had other JDs but sold them. Went on the better tractors. Only reason I still have the D is, it was my first tractor.

1940 Ford 9N, same age as me, bought in 2002 for $1000. Still use it on 10 acres, built pond, roads, cut brush, do garden still a great tractor.

my first farm tractor is 39 an economy. i just picked up a jd-h and working on it now. it looks great. new tires and great paint. but every thing else needs repair. wally

Grew up on the farm. Rented 800 acres in 1964, bought a 1951 Oliver 99 at a neighbor's retirement sale, along with a 1951 JD Van Brunt 20x8 grain drill. Paid $670 for the tractor and $110 for the drill. That same year bought a IH M from our landlord. Traded the Oliver off for a JD 820 four years later. Should have kept it but upgraded to a JD 4020, which I still have, in about 1971.

The first tractor to call my own was the IH 986 I have today. The first I pursued but did not get was a JD 630. I could have gone to the bank on the 630 but then gave thought to at some point needing a car so I let the 630 go.

The first tractor I bought was a IH 460 gas & you talk about POS junk tractor. I didn't keep it long . I sold it to a guy & he was so proud of it. Fortunately or Unfortunately it burnt in a barn fire about a month after I sold it to him.

Oliver 880 Diesel. Bought it on December 3rd 1083. It was -20 degrees and I went and looked at another 880, but did not buy it. Was on my way home when I seen this one. Stopped in to look at it and the owner went out and sprayed a little ether in it and fired it up without having it plugged in. Bought it on the spot. Sold it when I moved off the farm. Did not need a tractor that big for plowing the driveway. However I could use it now since I own farmland.

1941 JD B all fuel electric start ser 110108 got it from my grandpa with the help from neighbors uncle put in ten ac of corn to feed my pig and cow LOL. Sold it when moved to Florida in 1980 to a guy in Gaylord Mi. The range selector would pop out of low sometimes under load.

My first tractor was a Kubota B5200 I bought in 1987 when I bought land in the country. It was a great little tractor and I still have it. It had a front loader on it but was 2wd and the front axles were too wimpy to have a loader on it. Still I ended up doing work I should have had a bulldozer for. I have since removed the loader and just use is with a bush hog.

Grew up on the farm I still live on, operating dads 8N, Ford 850, WD, Dexta, still had the 850 and Dexta when he passed in 76.
First tractor of my own was a CA Allis a neighbor wanted me the have when he retired and sold his place, sold it and got a 58 Ford 871 diesel, traded it in 90 for the 69 4000 I still have.
Have 4 more Fords to share the work load today.

1st tractor i was on solo was a SC Case ,. i was not yet 5 , pikin up hay ,. My Dads Cousin and him were short a driver , And Arch Said to my Dad ,." JUnnie , You think Jimmy can drive out here" ,.,.? I remember saying "do you Think I CAN ?".. "Sure , i know you can as "Dad pikt me up by the waste and planted me on the seat . all i had to do was keep strat down the row,/ my 1st tractor i bought was john deere m with a tobacco setter plow and seeder .

Ford 3000, bought shortly after buying this property in 2002. I really just got lucky in finding and buying the 3000. I had no idea what I was doing other than knowing I couldn't afford or justify a $20,000.00 tractor. Paid $5000.00 for the 3000 diesel with a loader, box blade and old Ford flail mower. It worked out really well and has been the right tractor for what I have needed.

Liked the 3000 enough to buy a 3600 last spring when I decided to do some planting and felt I needed a tractor dedicated to mowing while plowing and planting with the 2nd one.

1953 Farmall Stage II Super M in 1979 for my "hobby farming" that lasted 5 years. Then later in 1995 I bought a 1948 John Deere GW to restore, have had several since then to play with.

My Ford mechanic uncle sic'd me onto a guy that had a 70 Oliver for sale. When I went to look at it there was a Studebaker p/u truck with factory Omaha Std. racks on it. Both were shedded when not in use. I gave him $25 for the 70 but $50 for the truck didn't interest me. Besides, back in the late 60's that brand was pretty lame. gm

My first tractor for collecting and haying was a 1951 A John Deere. My first tractor for farming was a 1979 4640 John Deere. Still have both tractors!

806 diesel bought in 1978 year after highschool and still have it and use it. Spraying and anything else we need it for. Family has 12 more tractors. We follow Jon's advice use old tractors and have a fleet of them so if one is down just hitch another in place of it.

Hi, my first tractor was a Case 530 bhloader. I had it for 30 yrs. Good tractor. Then I bought a Farmall Cub, later, I bought this place with a UTB530. I still have the last 3.

My Dad and I always purchased tractors together but the first one that I purchased and owned on my own was an Oliver 66 Row crop 1951 I believe

a 10-20 mccormick i got from my nieghbor for 50.00 in 1973. i got it running too by myself at 16 years old. been buying tractors since then.

1963 Oliver 500. I bought it in 1990. Mostly used with a 5' flail mower, but did a salvage log operation with it a couple years ago.

Ford 9N with a Bush Hog mower (a real Bush Hog brand mower that was really too heavy for it). Just had 3 acres at the time. The mower was in bad shape but worked, except for the gear oil draining out about as fast as you poured it in. Left it back in the woods when we moved.
