The faster We go?

The farther behind we get!! Still havn't got to the 706 to winterize .Started out brushing, sorting 700 lbs of potatoes, then on to the 706. Yea right!Son checked the G.M.C 2500 4x4 noticed water leak coming from the intake manifold.Such a cheep factory gasket,Plastic outerlay with fiber inside.Trouble in the making.Lots of folks have ,and had the failure at about 150K.Last night we worked from 12:30 noon till 7:45 last night tare down, clean up, so now its back today re-assembling.My job was thread chasing, dist cleanup cleaning spark plugs and cleaning the manifold. What a nasty nasty job.Sure will be glad when it's done and back on the road.Hard for an old duffer to hold tools etc.Wonder if any G.M.C.owners on here have had this experience? Was terrific working in a HEATED GARAGE for a change with out wood furnace and torpedo heater with all the fumes. No word on #2 son test on his cancer. Will know more tomorrow.Warmest regards Lou& Victor.

I don't like the messy cleanup work either. I get it all done at once so it is over with, then I can be clean for the reassembly. I hope the news on your son is good.

You guys need to pick up the pace a little, those intake jobs don't pay over about three and a half hours out of the book. Worked for a GM dealer over forty years, the ones I hated were the cast iron ones on big block Chevys and some of the old Fords, might be a contributing factor why my lower back feels like red hot mush now. Admire you two guys, doesn't seem like there's any job you won't tackle.

Removing the intake from a Ford 390 can be done by one man, but a man and 2 boys works a whole lot better.

My dad, who was never big on grammar, always said "The hurrieder we go, the behinder we get."

Lou, I have been pretty lazy lately. Got the firewood program done, harvested about 100# of spuds. The pantry is full of canned and frozen garden produce, and just haven't got excited in any other projects for the last week. Crash time; I guess!!! The wifey and I put the garden to sleep about 2 weeks ago, except for the brussel sprouts. Did manage to start a new winter fabrication project in my shop today.
Stay tuned for that.
Things turned incredbly green in the last 2 days after rain and warmer weather. Hope I don't have to mow the lawns again this year.

You will be one lucky guy to hit the timing correct. Its called cam offset you will need a scan tool to nail the timing. They make metal replacement gaskets you need to go by the book when torquing the manifold bolts. After about the first 5/6 its not a bad job I get 5 hr and go after all the coolant hoses while there...
