I commented on couple TV shows that I really did not watch. Just caught a part of them. According to ALINARK I have no gumption. OLD TANKER I am not smart enough to turn it off. ULTRADOG I am dumb for even watching a part of the show. Lot of good people on here, however I just think should join my friend George and only occasionally check for something that would not draw so much outright insults from a group I thought to be mostly friends. I know, do not let the door knob hit me on the azz.

I've been on this forum selling items since before there were picture ads. I have always checked the discussion forums 2 or 3 times a day since I set in front of a computer 5 days a week.

I have seen many guys start out on these forums with a post or two and get a kind reply or two, and morph into some type of a super-know-it-all and soon are telling people how to think, how to work their fields, that they are idiots for doing something a certain way (without knowing the circumstances), they shouldn't be farming, they are idiots for not being in a union, and probably 100 other different ways of letting the rest of us know that they are Brain Surgeons, and the rest of us are Minions.

Normally, those people drift away after a year or two, maybe three at the most because they can't get the satisfaction from showing how brilliant they are, from the people they expect to serve them.

I wouldn't let it bother you, but moreso just look at their posts and shake your head. They can't help themselves. If you do take off, take care - Bob

I know, go to the carnival, walk around for an hour or two, and you will feel much better about yourself. It works for me.
 
What ever happened to "sticks and stones?"

Seems like it's in fashion to take everything personally these days so you can be OUTRAGED.

Why is what some anonymous person, sitting behind a keyboard hundreds or thousands of miles away, says or thinks important to you?
 
Filter life for quality. when the filter is plugged up nothing gets through. Change the filter and stay engaged with the forum. Jim

Hay,dont let it bother you,there will always be people out there,on here that think they are the smartest of all. I know. I posted one time and a fella came back and told me to keep it tractor related. So I say,what goes around comes around. I then found an item that that person posted and I referred to that to keep it tractor related.

There are all kinds of people in this world!

Wilson I quit reading your TV post after the first couple of hurtful remarks turned away my interest, but I just went back and read the rest of it. There were many good positive responses too. People are followers, one person posts a negative remark and now the door is open for a full flow of negative remarks. It's normal human behavior. It's easier to think negative than positive. Just think about that, people who constantly make negative remarks are taking the easy way out.

I have thought about leaving this site several times because of disparaging remarks made to posters but then I thought about the large majority of good people here and I changed my mind.

If someone makes a nasty remark to me here it does rankle me a bit but not enough to let it get to me. What does bother me is when someone else like you gets unjustifiably crucified.

A few weeks ago I thought there must be something in the air on this site lately, maybe it's the weather. The general mood isn't as positive as it was last summer.
 
Kinda like going to small church.. You have to be thick skinned to endure some of the folk in the pews.

Go ahead... Leave.. only hurts you.. Most won't care.

I dont post on here figuring everyone will be kind and considerate.. After all the world is not kind and considerate...

BUT I do post for the few that will give you good help... EVEN if it happens to be honest help after all I wouldnt want the "good" ones to tell me what I want to hear and that Im right even when Im wrong.

Ask and weigh all the answers assume that there will be some prickly folk in the bunch and move on.. Life is to short to let the neg. get you down..
 
I missed that thread but I have seen similar before. The trick is to never let them know they are annoying you. That way, you win. Works for me.
 
I will say, anyone living or trying to farm in the upper part of the upper Midwest has endured a very wet, cold, miserable fall season and or harvest.

We are all short on sunshine and time and just generally in a very sour mood.

I've tried to keep a sunny disposition, but kinda at my limit for grinning and bearing it myself.

Perhaps folks are just letting off steam at a rather dull, drab, period of time, and don't really mean much by it.

It's not you, it's the situation outside the window that has everyone in a ticked off ready to blow mood?

There is a verse in the Bible that goes something like "I thank thee I am not like the publicans and the sinners." I am frequently reminded of it when I visit this and other forums.
 
People have said things to me in the past, I couldn't let go of for some time. It still happens now and then. Most of what is said here is said in fun. I would just ignore what was said. My 2cents. Stan
 
Seems you added a little spice to what they said! Don't worry about it, just be the best person you can be, hold your head up and keep going, don't drown in criticism.

I didn't call anyone dumb.
I asked a rhetorical question.
If any of you answered it in such a way that you feel insulted I suggest next time you not be so hard on yourself.

...Oh, wait - never mind, that was on some stupid TV show! *lol*

Most of the time, hurtful words just glance off without so much as a scratch. For a while there, there were a lot more hurtful words than normal (normal....you know, in ALL THE YEARS I've been here! :wink: ) and it was really sad to see the members at each others throats - usually about something politically-related. However, it started morphing, and people who were political opposites started throwing the words without those words even having to be political. Things have been MUCH nicer since than; much more social and civil. When you stop to consider that everything we write stays on the YT website long afterwards, then you come to understand that in some instances, words really can matter - especially for our hosts, Kim & Chris.

While all of the replies here have been awesome, I believe Janicholson has summed things up best of all. Yes, sometimes things get to us that normally would just glance off without a scratch. That said, there "do" come times when one has to separate themselves for a while. Don't wanna see that happen, but can understand if you need it. Just don't make a rash decision - think it over carefully.

I said "if it's that bad turn it off". What in the heck is insulting about that? I didn't say a word about intelligence or lack thereof.

These martyr posts are kinda sad on their own. Pandering to those who think it necessary to say they feel bad how people reacted to what they said looks like just another plea for attention. The fact is this is a tractor forum and some have warped it into another version of Facebook and act like teens and posts like this prove it. I couldn?t care less if somebody has a problem with what I write, they have no positive or negative impact on my life. There isn?t anyone on here that I wish would stop posting, but if I decided to stop using yt, I wouldn?t post a diatribe.
 
I thought you were up to your eyeballs in tomatoes and had to take time to do something with them. LOL

I've been a little on edge lately because of the weather and haven't been paying attention to much that's been going on. It'll pass. Yours will too I hope. Stick around,but give it a rest of you need to. I know I've had to for the sake of my posting privileges.

lets keep this tractor related,,,if everyone agreed on things that are sensible and the best,,,, and didnt have opinions,,,,we wouldnt have all the different tractors to talk about,,,,,///there would only be Fords,,.....(lol)
 
I must have missed something, 'cause I haven't a clue what this is about. It does help to have a thick skin on this forum, though, but sometimes you just have to shrug it off.

I know I've posted stuff no one agrees with, but like someone said, a difference of opinion is what makes a horse race.
 
One thing I believe would help us to be more civil if that is a problem is for no one to think they are the cat's meow. For the most part we post opinions which may be right some of the time, or may not be right at all. No one's opinion means any more than anyone else's Glean what you like, ignore the rest. Most if not all of you know more than I do but I don't elevate anyone to the throne. That is reserved for the One who is Ultimate Truth.
 
I found years ago that when the weather turns cold, people get on YT and get rude. I first noticed it around 2005/2006. I figured that I had worn out my welcome. I checked back in every now and then and by spring everyone was back to being fine. I think it has to do with people being cooped up and looking at work that needs done and the weather not permitting.

Thick skin helps. Bring up an electrical question and watch heads spin.

Hi, this comes up from time to time. Somebody is very sensitive and somebody is a bit rude. It's an every day thing. It happens with kids, man and wife, neighbors, everyone. I guess that's why we're taught " if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" . Move on!

Well I guess it boils down to if you want an AMEN crowd you go to church,but if you want honest opinions from a bunch of mostly hard headed old fellows that have been around the track a few
times you go to YT.
 
Ahh, C'MON!, Wilson , Sit out A bit if Ya Like , But for Godsakes get over it ,lick your wounded pride ,dust yourself off , learn from your Mistakes and strive to be self improved .and MOST IMPORTANT get back in the game .heck,..i got pikt on for poor penmanship and spelling and pucntuation .My posts were branded as a constant continuance of runon sentences .Trying to interpret my posts seemed give some a headache ,. Shux, I did not have any trouble reading it ,,.But , Of Course I wrote the Post ,.LOL ...It was on a post i rushed into print last week,. To be Honest the Guy Was RIGHT.. I had gotten So Sloppy with the proper spelling of words and correct punctuation .. That i was having trouble spelling correctly words such as hipocrit,.Dang , I still can't spell it .Wilson You may as well admit you are a just like Me , a hopeless addict to this site.. someone posted, You can check out any time You like here ,, But you can Never Leave,..I Like that

Why are you announcing your intent to leave? For sympathy?
Personally, I have been flamed a few times here. Nothing more than a difference of opinion in most cases. Most recently downright RUDE by a self proclaimed genius from NC who only impresses me as a semi literate hammer mechanic.
But I have broad shoulders. I can take it. I'm not quitting. I also am not letting them run me off! The loss will be yours.
 
Well when you give in the enemy wins. In our world there are mostly very good honest hard working people. Unfortunately there is always some far left or right wingers that there only objective is to hurt people. Good honest Americans don't give up. They stand up. just my 3 cents worth.
