Oliver 1550 PTO Fork

On my Oliver 1550, I cannot get the PTO to engage after replacing the PTO clutch disc. Having an issue with the linkage and which way the PTO
fork and linkage should align on the manual PTO clutch handle. Anyone have a picture of how the linkage that connects to the forks inside the
housing how the rod and other linkage should be set to operate the clutch engage and disengage position. I have shimmed the clutch disc as
noted in the repair manual, now thinking the linkage that engages and disengages clutch in not correct position. This is nothing more than a
fork that pivots inside the PTO housing, the fork should apply enough pressure so the clutches engage and release pressure moving handle in
opposite direction to disengage the clutch. When I operate the PTO it will barely engage and I have to move the handle in either direction to
keep the clutches engaged. Could be I added too many shims but unsure how to proceed. I have the Oliver manual and it is worthless for this
repair and adjustments.

Do you feel it snap over center? If not,you might have too many shims in like you said. I don't have a picture right handy in my files of the linkage.

Tim, Have a pic if it helps. I had to add shims to get mine to work properly. A quick check to see if you need more shims is just loosen bolts equally and try to see if it snaps over.

I think the new replacement plates are thicker than the originals,I had to add close to another set out of a parts 77 to get the PTO to engaged like it should in my 1550 gas.Think I actually
had to get slightly longer bolts too.

Greg. Looks like my linkage is in same position. Just guessing the PTO is disengage position. Thanks for the picture.

Makes sense. Thinking too many shims, the clutch plates have separation when disengaged. I can feel clutches grabbing at center of handle position when moved from engaging and disengaged. Thanks.

Tim, Yes that was disengaged. That 1550 in the pic sold at auction for 4700. On my tractor the previous owner removed all the shims. PTO was spinning all the time.

There is ample space when PTO is disengaged, actually maybe too many shims as the clutches do not fully engage, only a slight grab of the disc, enough to operate the bushhog but having to keep hand on control handle any feel for the sweetspo

Tim, From my I&T manual If pull required to engage clutch is less than 43 pounds remove cover loosen cap screws holding the shims and remove 2 or 3 of the 0.oo7 shims from each set.

Greg, I plan on the fix this weekend. I'll let you know if it works or not. Thanks for the information.

Finished the PTO work on my Oliver 1550 gas, I had too shims preventing the disc from fully engaging when PTO handle was engaged. Ended up using two small washers stacked on top of each other vs using the brass shims. Worked perfectly. Thanks for all the feedback!
