Lawn tractor battery

I just got done taking the battery out of the old Husqvarna, the hold down bolts are about gone and there was more corrosion around it. Next time I buy a battery I'm buying the better one that Geo TH recommended! I miss Geo!

Next battery You get .. .. Put some Silocone Grease/ Petroleum jelly around the Treminals, That will Stop that , I do it on all mine,.. and attach a 1.8 Ma Solar Panel to it and it will be ready when You are,, Larry

The battery in my JD lawn tractor is 14 years old and going strong, the one in my Scag is 6 years old and shot, it is a crapshoot.

I've had about three of the Farm/Fleet sealed batteries, don't last any longer but don't have corrosion all over either. I miss George too, wonder if he made it to Mackinaw island and the U.P. this fall.

I use regular garden tractor batteries and spray terminals and hold down bolts with terminal protectant spray. Batteries are in battery maintainers when not in use and get 5 to 6 years out of batteries. I do the same with my old farm tractors

I'll say +1 to what motorcraftman say's. I use di-electric grease and a Deltran Battery Tender. I get 3 to 5 years from small battreies and 5 to 10 from truck and tractor batteries, all from Wally World. Cover posts with grease before installing cable,grind/brush ground contact surface on chassis bright and cover with grease before tightening bolt. Grease in CLEAN trailer lights will save headaches.

My 332 Deere lawn tractor would go through JD Strongbox and Exide batteries like they were candy. Off gassing would eat up the hold down in 2 years. I now get about 5 years from a Mills Fleet Farm battery and the hold down has zero corrosion.

Install a "battery disconnect switch" and shut if off each and every time you park the garden tractor.

You will NOT believe how much longer the batteries will last, and how much less corrosion appears around the terminals, and the ignition and neutral safety switches will also give less trouble, and be free of conductive corrosion around the terminals, ESPECIALLY if it ever sits out in the rain.

A couple of years ago I cleaned all of the terminals on my trucks, tractors, jeep in the fall and for the first time ever sprayed them with that red terminal protector stuff I think made by permatex. Next summer I began having starting problems and on at least one of the trucks and the jeep were new batteries that I installed when I sprayed the red coating on the fall before. I took them apart, the red stuff was down between the terminals and the posts. Cleaned them off, put back together, no more problems. Now I'm back to cleaning the way that I always did, take apart and scrubbing with baking soda in water, put back together, done until the next time.
