8n only idle with choke out

I have a new carb on a side mount 8n I have got timing set , it will only idle with choke out I could use some help in setting the carb correctly or diagnosing the problem I have. thanks

Throttle stop screw could be set way to low for it to run at idle. Or you have the idle needle seat out to far. Idle jet needle setting it in for rich out for lean. I would start with the idle needle set at 1.5 turn out form bottom and the stop screw set so the butter fly is not fully closed

Also check the fuel flow from the tank- should be a steady stream, not just a drip. Check it by taking off the sediment bulb and turning on the gas valve.

decobb...heres the way I recommend adjusting yer M/S carbie. Set the down-pointing MAINJET to 2-turns and LEAVITT!!! Adjust the side-pointing IDLEMIX fer FASTEST idle NOT SMOOTHEST idle. Understand the difference??? Usually will be about 1/8-1/4 turn. Remember the idlemix is BASSACKWARDS; out fer lean, IN fer ENRICH. Idle speed is behind the idlemix. Ennythang under 500-rpms is goot. I once gott my eazy starting 6-volt 8N to idle at 375-rpms with a transistorized tachometer. Don't haffa tacho??? Buy one, squander $20 bucks fer an el-cheapo, runner on 9-volt battery. Simple, eh?.......Dell
