IH 1466 parking brake slipping

I have a IH 1466. The transmission parking brake started slipping. Tried searching this in the archive, but really didn't get a good answer.

Can anyone provide help on this?

Thanks,

Walt

YEa , IF you have not updated to the spring loaded park loc now would be a good time. Over time the over center old stile gets out of adjustment or bent and even when new they could be forced out of park on a hill trying to hold a load . Sometimes the linkage get bent and it no longer snaps over center . To install the updated version one must remove the top cover of the range trans mission to install the kit. It's not a big deal to do and when i was buying I H tractors each and everone that came home to be fixed up for resale i installed this kit . You pull the top cover and install a heavy spring that comes with the kit over the rod operating the park loc pawl. , you remove and throw away the old adjustable turn buckle and the one cam and you install a long rod . Non cab tractors were easy to do but cab tractor were a little harder .
The oold turn buckl3e ones once that turn buckle starts to bend they just keep on bending . So before someone gets hurt or even worse killed Change it out .

Thanks for the quick reply.

It started recently with a load, luckily, the tractor was still running with me at the controls and I was able to get it stopped quickly. I see that it does it with no load now when on a grade.

I have a cab on mine, do you have to remove it to install the kit?

Many thanks,

Walt

No not really , it just makes the job a little harder working thru the cab doors . If you have never been into the rage cover then i would seek some help from someone that has . Even if you took it to the dealer to have this done it should not ake more then a couple hours for someone who has done this before . On the 66 sires tractors there is a plate that will come off the deck plate and give access to the range trans cover , Myself i also like to pull the side cover down on the left side , this gives access to the rev shift fork and for me it makes going back together much easier and i can also look the shift fork over . While the range cover is off you can check it over for any parts that maybe missing like the detent spring and any broken rollers . When going back on ya want to make sure that the rev. shifter shaft goes in correctly and the shifter cam drops down on the peg. .

make sure you remove the upper cross pin in the lower end of the rod that lifts the pawl It allows the park lever to drop as soon as the gear rotates if it's not already aligned to mesh with the gear It is in the instructions failure to do this makes it very hard to pull it out of park.

Is there a kit number for this upgrade? I have my cab off right now as I'm restoring her...and figured while in there I could update these parking parts.
