Just hooked to my last load for Dart Transit! Picking it up just south of Kansas City and will deliver it to Menomonie Wi tomorrow. After 11 years with Dart and 14 on the road, That will be it for over the road driving for me. Still can't decide if I'm excited or dreading it. Lol I will certainly miss seeing the country and meeting my friends from here, but I won't miss all the traffic problems and jerks on the road.

can't remember what you said was the next phase of your life Jon, but best of luck and am sure you won't miss the long haul deal
kinda the same as me when I quit working shifts, was really , really nice to be " home "
again, good luck & hope it works out !

Hey Larry, Jon's wife told my wife that Jon makes the house look like a disaster zone when he is home. I bet Claudia will be giving him some lessons on house keeping when he is home every night. Don't tell anyone though.

PS Jon, Beth told Claudia that I am no better, and make messes every day, and she hasn't kicked me out YET. HeHe

Congrats ! I don't envy being on the road and out of town, did that for about 15 years as well, nice to be home, no place like it and the further you are away, the more you appreciate it. I was in Kentucky last week, nice drive, sure don't like 80, took 90 home.

My wife of 49 years still puts up with my mess making ..... EXCEPT for peeing on the toilet seat, she has no patience for that .... ha !!!

Best thing that happened in that room is a slow closing lid. We both close it with a touch, no bending for this old body, always a dry seat and never a scream in the middle of the night about the seat not being down as we both have to open it.

I would venture to say you will come out better on this truck than you did on the Volvo. Those single axel ,fat tire things are still setting around with folks just trying to get a bid. What will happen to the one you are driving now?

I did that and farmed for almost 30 years. Once in a while I miss the open road. What I liked most was handling the equipment...watch guys struggle to back in some place that was a piece of cake for me. 3 1/2 days and 3000 miles and back home to farm for 3 1/2 days. Got old after awhile.

I also ran the OTR gig for over 10 years. Trust me. You will NOT miss it.
You will not miss the receivers with an attitude. You will not miss long waits to load or unload. You will not miss dispatchers promising you will deliver the next day - 1400 miles away! And you surely will not miss brokers with their "last resort" loads that nobody else would haul. Nope. You will not miss it. I promise!

(quoted from post at 01:06:02 10/20/17) Why does Dave Dudley?s ?6 days on the road? come to mind. Good luck Jon.
Another generation to run the roads. Smile and enjoy the memories. good things ahead Jon.CM

We don't have a high tech seat and lid, but my wifey is petite, and if she sat down in the middle of the night with the seat up, her feet would be off the floor and she would be wedged down in the bowel. Thank god that hasn't happened!!!! I would be sleeping in my tractor shop.
for a month.

Good for you. You may miss it for while, but then you will say to your self, I should have done this sooner. You have probably seen enough crazies on the road, and country most of us will never have a chance to see. Stan

Got my million miles in years ago. I NEVER MISSED it, sold out and started a tire shop. Loved that business.

Jon, I cant imagine anymore the bad roads and traffic you have gone through. All I know was my semi driving days, and do not miss them.

Good luck on the new adventure jon. On a real nice sunny day if I happen to be on the interstate and I see a nice shiny rig I git a tad bit of an itch. Then I think nope no way don t miss it. RB

The law won't allow 3000 miles in 3.5 days.
Just did 680 miles today with 25 minutes to spare. About the most I have done in a day. Also 2 drop and hooks. All in Nebraska and about all on I80.
Just got my first year in last week. I am as old as Jon if not a little older.

Well when you do it long enough you take routes to miss the DOT....running 20 hour days was the norm. Get back to the office and turn in legal logs.Had only 2 tickets in almost 4 mil miles.

There Has Got to be a anxious churn in your gut about now ,..But it will be OK ,,. now you know how the pilots felt when they ferried their B -17s home from england after the war,. or the skipper of a submarine bringing his crew home to drydock and turn out into civies clothes, ? just be careful , that nuthin goes wrong on your last run // . I Enjoyed our Chat the other morning Jon , it would a been great to give you the 25 cent tour around here , but i mist your message because i was to busy with all the demands here , // BTW , How many miles did you put on the NEW truck? ,,. How Many have you Drove? ,.,.a 75 yr old pal of mine drove 5 million miles over 50 yrs ,.without a accident!, he says ,. It Is Probably TRUE ... I wish You All the Best Luck in your new home runs ,. ( I like that term ) and who knows if we live long enuf ,we are likely to cross trail some day

I'm at 162,000 miles Now, so that means I put about 110,000 on this truck. In 14 years I have just under 2 million miles.

Congratulations Jon, Good luck on your new endeavor. Just out of curiosity, the daily funny ain't gonna stop is it?

You Did GOOD, Casecollector ,.. in those days , i believe you , all the way down to the double log books and the back roads ,.. Now Crank up "6 Days on the road "for JON ,. sadly because some could not hold up to trying to match your records we have stricter rules today .. i have never driven over 650 miles without switchin drivers ,. the mezmorizin of the road is like a buzz up drug to me ,, and therefore i am not trukin material

Good luck with the new path you're taking. Check in and let us know how it goes. BTW from young age wanted be a trucker. I liked the conventional Petes, knew a lot abt trucks when I was 11 or so then the CB craze hit and suddenly trucks were cool. Took a different path but still like trucks, try to let them move over whenever possible.
