I have a Massey Ferguson 50 with dual remotes. I only have 500 psi on the remotes. The three point works fine, will lift a 1200# bale with no problem. I got the pressure to jump up once to about 1800, I was bumping the ears where the 3rd point pins up. Any ideas, nothing in the owners manual, and the local dealer told me it only would put out 500 psi, and I had the wrong oil in it. Any suggestions?

According to the IT manual, before serial # 500630, the relief is 1900-2300. After that serial # it is 2300-2800.

Says to check with the position control in the full up position, but I think you would need to chain the 3 point down, somewhere in the middle to get a true reading.

The relief pressure is set, non adjustable. There is a relief cartridge screwed into the pump.

You can check for internal leakage by removing the inspection covers, looking in with a flashlight (DON'T REACH IN THERE!) for oil swirling around down by the pump, which would indicate a leaking relief valve or blown oring on the stand pipe (that brings oil up to the cylinder), or oil spraying down from above, which would mean the upper oring on the stand pipe, or the cylinder seals leaking. Some seepage from the cylinder seals is normal.

Of course all this depends on the remotes being closed off.

That originally had 90 weight mineral oil, which is too thick for cold weather. Most run 15w40 engine oil.

My son has a 65 mf. It is really tricky to get the remote to work. His has two levers. But just one remote. With two quick couplers. I have to play with the left lever (and have 3 point lever all the way back) then all of a sudden 3 point comes up and cylinder outlet works. Poor design. If they had a good hyd system would have been best tractor for its time. We just want to use it on a auger with hyd raise and lower.

My father in law had two Massey Ferguson 65 tractors. They both had the two levers. One lever controlled the external hydraulics and the other had to be either forward or back for the lever that controlled the external hyd to work. That was back in the 60s and I don't remember which lever did what. I don't think the 3 point and the external hydraulic would work at the same time. I do remember that they were both great little tractor and I used to chop corn with one on the hills on his farm. Had 2 of those big heavy wheel weights on each rear wheel and a weigh track on the front.

Place the draft control lever fully UP, top of quadrant for valve use. This turns the hydraulic pump ON. Remember, as the lift arms reach the top the internal linkage turns the pump off. Just make sure the draft lever is moved back down when using the three point position control lever. Later 100 series had a constant pumping lever position that did the same thing..
