Niemeyer Rake opinions?

Saw a 715s twin rotary rake reasonably priced at a local dealer but I have no idea about them. Some guys have Pottinger 28' rakes and love them but they're pricey. This used 24' can be bought $20000 cheaper than a new Pottinger. Are these good rakes for wind rowing silage to be chopped or run for the hills? I'd like to drop the hay full width in 9' swaths next year than rake and double it up one pass to be chopped.

I have no idea about that rake. But I did what you want to do this year.... sold the merger, and bought a Kuhn twin rake. It worked, and picked up full width swaths for A LOT less money than a big merger. You will really have to watch the setting so as not to pick up a lot of dirt and stones. I really think the reason it works for us is we are no-till, and haven't had to pick rocks in years... fields are smooth and stone free.

You have to be real careful raking in front of the chopper. You can easily get rock/wood/rake teeth into the chopper.

Rotary rakes work well but are costly when you want width. I would be real cautious when looking at a used rotary rake.

Very good point thank you, what's your opinion on say a double v type bar/tine type rake similar to the old fashioned rakes?

That model has open cam tracks - generally means short lifespan compared to the enclosed models. There?s a double Kuhn for sale in Quebec right now for less money.

Well you can get two types of them. Vermeer makes a hydraulic driven one that works very well. It is sold also as a JD model too. 700 and 705 are the JD models.

Then you can get the double rake hitch that pulls a left and right hand regular rake. These are a cheaper option. The better ones of these have a hydraulic steering axle on the hitch.
