A mechanic friend ,today is looking for a 7/16 inch socket head bolt, fine thread, grade 8. 2.25 or 2.5 inches long. Any body know where to locate? thanks , joe

That didn't take long. Thanks for the reply, I will let him know tomorrow and maybe that engine will run again. thanks, joe

You're welcome. They also have many other lengths including 2.5" if that's a better fit :)
McMaster ships fast, no minimum order and doesn't charge $17.95 for shipping a few nuts/bolts either.

Tractor supply has some fine thread bolts - not sure about 7/16. They would be in their bins in the area where the other miscellaneous fasteners found.

Must be a different Tractor Supply than I have. I use a lot of standard grade 2 corse thread 7/16" bolts and they do not carry them. 7/16" was a standard on machinery built in the 30's, 40's, and 50's and both cap screw or carriage bolt and I have to go to Rural King as TSC does not carry any 7/16". About 3 weeks ago got a lot of bolts at Rural King for $1.49 a pound, were out a couple of sizes I needed so went over to TSC %1.79 pound, this week needed more so stopped at TSC and now $2.29 a pound. 50 cent a pound price jump. The difference in price would have paid the gas to go the extra 40 mile to Rural King.

Fastenall can order anything you need. You will find that 7/16 bolt size is a real orphan. As others have said it was like 50 years ago.

if it has a 7/16 head you are most likely talking about a 1/4 inch bolt, they are identified by the diameter of the threaded shaft , not by the head size. They used to have heavy duty bolts that had larger heads than normal, like a 3/8ths bolt with a 5/8th head instead of the usual 9/16ths head, so going by just the head dimension can get you in trouble sometimes.

McMaster-Carr has about every kind of nut and bolt known to man if they don't have it you're probably not going to be able to get it anywhere.

No they can't , don't even bother looking for a grade 8 Carriage bolt 2 3/4 long with a non threaded shank in 7/16ths fine thread . Only place ya find that bolt is mother DEERE and bend over and grab your socks .
