QUOTE: Sears is done in Canada. Will be liquidating all remaining 130 stores. Its too bad they could not figure out how to move on from mail order and compete online.

I find it sad that SEARS and other stores had to close their doors, as CUSTOMERS, continue to purchase manufactured out side of CANADA & USA substandard crappy material that has flooded our Nations:

I also can't picture a life with out Sears. We bought our first sh XXXX Manure Spreader from Sears a David Bradley. What a big deal that was. Remember how the tongue used to fold down when you put the leg down and backed up to unhook from it ? The next spreader we got was a 10A New Idea. Gosh that was a lot of years ago. One more thing a neighbor bought his house from the Sears Catalog. Yes for sure they sure did and I can remember it. Old Scovy

Ya but, Sears is not a manufacturer. They are a retailer. How come we North Americans don't buy the crappy material from Sears?

Do you as a Canadian wanto spend $2000.00 for a TV that was made in North America or do you want to buy the $700.00 version made over seas?

There are certain things that I buy that cost is not an issue as quaitly is needed, but then there are them things like a TV...

We used to shop there quite a bit but when I noticed more and more Chinese junk showing up there the wife just went to Target and other stores to purchase the same items, now days it all appears to be junk is different colored packages.

I bought a lot of tools there, some appliances and lawn mower.

Have their credit card.

Locally there is a small tool, appliance, and lawn mower store here. Still open.

35 miles away there was an anchor store, big Sears. It closed.

All those years, my email was pretty quiet with the Sears ads.

Since they closed the big mall store, -now- my email is full of promotions from them to buy clothes, jewelry, etc.

Well no wonder they are going under. They send out ads for stuff I can't buy from them any more....... duh.

I posted a picture of catalog a couple years ago , since on Sears. It is dated 1929 and has a few houses in it.

In about 2011, I bought a flex head ratchet there, which broke the first time I used it (first of their China tools). I took it back and begged them for an old US made replacement,
which luckily I got (and still have, just used it the other day).

I havent been back since. I broke a breaker bar almost a year ago and havent been bothered to return it.

Sears is 100% dead to me since they sabotaged their Craftsman line. Sometimes I think "Man, I wish I could just go to the local sears and buy this size of wrench that I need"
except they likely dont sell it anymore and if they do, its crap. So, I pull out my phone instead and buy an SK online or a used one on ebay for $6 and its at my door a few days
later.

My run with craftsman tools was great, while it (they) lasted.

All of my hand tools are older USA made Craftsman. Wouldn't trade them for anything. And since I don't abuse my tools (99% of them are) I don't do warranty exchanges.

Sears sells what the customer wants which is low price no matter where the goods are made. Most people don't care that goods come from China.

Old Scovy, A house next door to our farm was a pre cut Sears home. The story goes that the carpenter hired didn't know that boards were precut and was hacking away until he figured out what was wrong. House is still standing and I think it was built in the 30's. I forgot to tell you there was an online news article on you and your Aussie friends. It was at All Otsego.com. The other couple in the article I help out on their farm from time to time.

I put Roseboom power days 2017 in the bing search box. The article is 8/19/2017 Roseboom Power Days warms up for Sunday tractor parade, more.

Jim, my oldest son's house is a sears home. On one of the floor joist, "model 197" is stamped. All precut, and shipped, along with doors and windows. The tell-tale sign of a sears home, is the continuous up-turned beam on the front porch, running the entire width of the house. (Houses in the 30's were narrow and deep to accommodate narrow lots)

I take along the old catalog sometimes when attending shows and have had a few couples who picked out their house from it. A lot more know of or have the barns. I think Sears probably had a separate one with just the homes in it. It is in real good shape for being 88 yrs old and I kind of handle it with care.

Good evening Hay maker2:

Every time I purchase any goods, appliances, clothing, grocery's, automobiles, I take note of the COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. If I purchase goods from a different store than the norm, I once again take note of the COUNTRY OF ORIGIN.I have shopped on line to obtain goods made in either CANADA or the USA before I shall purchase from Nations with unacceptable Non Democratic ruling Governments.

My parents always supported CANADA first and our great neighbour, the USA if goods were not available made in CANADA.
Nations of Democracy made a terrible error in Judgement when they opened our POST SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS to foreign Counties, whom once educated by our Nations Educators then returned to their homes only to through their substandard goods in our faces.

What I find very sad, the same Corporate Business that once had employees working in CANADA and United Sates have left our Nations with the huge profits they made from our Nations whom gave TAX BREAKS,UTILITIEY breaks and other incentives to set up their Industries in Canada and the UNITED STATS, only to move on to some third world nations so as profits are greater and were I suspected environment operating Laws are possibly questionable?

To address your question Hay maker2 "Do you as a Canadian wanto spend $2000.00 for a TV that was made in North America or do you want to buy the $700.00 version made over seas?"

I would much sooner see a FIRST CLASS reliable TV for sale in CANADA for $2000.00 made in CANADA /USA knowing that the wages paid the workers in CANADA /USA were earned by employees of the free world and not lining the bank accounts of a very few individuals in non-democratic Nations.

Way too many people buying broken or old tools at yard sales and then returning them to the store for "warranty" replacements. JMHO

A company that at one time could sell you a house , a motorcycle, a barn , a silo. Any appliance you could need . Tools that held up to hard use. Sad just sad. Somehow lost their way in the world.

greg oliver Thanks for the post. I sure would like to get a copy of that. The boys from down under would also. . The Old Scovy

I am not very good with a computer so I was not able to get anything to come up about the Roseboom tractor show. I wanted so bad to get a copy of that. >> The Old Scovy <<

Craftsman is now owned by Stanley, Black & Decker, Ace Hardware is doing a good job of stocking and warrantying them. Don't know where they're making them I should look next time I'm at work. Thought I'd mention it for those who didn't know or have lost their local Sears and are looking to warranty the tools. Stanley also makes MAC, Proto and Blackhawk tools
