This reminds me of when I was farming and raising wheat. I was renting the farm from my mother at the time. My wife and I had tickets to the late June NASCAR race in Brooklyn, Michigan, figuring the wheat harvest wouldn't start until early July. As it happened, we had an early wheat harvest that year and I started combining wheat, and then got rained out, the Thursday before the race.

On Friday, we left for Michigan, attended the race on Sunday, and got home Monday. On Tuesday I resumed the wheat harvest with no harm done, but my mother was not pleased with me. It was a long time before I heard the last of that caper.

The mistake was letting her know you were gone. You should have told her you wore a hole in the floor pacing all weekend waiting for it to dry out. You came back too happy.
