8 N voltage regulator

I got a 8- N on a trade a while back and need to replace the wiring, the alternator is already 12 volt and I think the regulator must be internal as there is no viaable voltage regulator. The wiring is in awful shape, I'm going to order a wire set from Y T and go from there, hope it has a diagram for the wiring hook up. The alternator is a one wire but now has three wires on that one post , I don't know what all the old wires go to,just thought I'd clean them all off and start from scratch. Does this sound possible for a birdbrain? Pat. P.

Make a diagram of how it is wired as you might need it later. Don't just rip them out. luck, joe

One of the wires on the alternator has to come from a positive battery source, either directly to the battery, of fed through the amp meter.

The other 2 probably go to feed some accessory. Trace them down, see where they go. They may not go to anything.

The harness you buy will be wired for a generator, which means there will be extra wires that won't be used. With a little practice and a wiring diagram, you could probably make your own harness. They are simple and basic. Check out some Youtube videos on how it's done.

Oder a wires why?? A tractor wiring is so simple that most any body can wire on up. Been making my own for tractor for decades now. One or 2 wire for the ignition and in your case one wire for the alternator and that is it unless you have lights. You can wire one up for $10 or so in wire and a few connectors.
