Nebraska Weather...........

The weather in Nebraska is known to be contrary. Now the monsoon season has hit just when fall harvest should be in full swing. It rained most of last week, and more is on the way. I'm wondering what the outcome might be.

One BTO who has corn and soybeans planted near my place had absolutely beautiful crops while they were growing. Now that the crops are ripe and ready to harvest, it appears the plant population of both is so dense that no air or sunlight will be able to reach the ground to dry things out from the current, recent, and future rains. In the case of drilled soybeans, it's possible the lower portions of the plants may not be able to dry out because the plants are now one matted down mess.

It should be interesting. And it's one of the reasons I've said two of the happiest days of my life were the day I started farming and the day I quit.

Just 10 minutes ago talked with a friend in RockRiver Wy. 8" on the ground, high winds. Most roads are closed.5 above forecast tonight. more coming....40-50 later in the week.

kinda sounds like our weather here up in central alberta canada. barley and canola has swathed for darn near a month now and these showers just keep coming everytime its almost dry. fri night a shower, sat night snow, last night more rain. not looking good here either. hope at least the turkey roasting dont get screwed up, cause not thankful for this weather.

never a dull moment; been part of farming in NE since the early 60's. more curveballs have been thrown then a guy could shake a stick at! I wouldn't get shook up yet, i've seen it much worse! soybeans are yielding right up there with the best, ever raised on this farm. plants look wet but beans are coming out dry. the part of the farm already harvested has covercrops seed and they are just popping out of the ground! 6" of rain in 36hr made an interesting site.

The weather seems to go too extremes any more. So i'm hoping once the monsoon is over it will get dry and warmer. If we do get a dry spell for a month look out because the monsoon will be back with tons of snow.Just how the year has gone in my part of Ne.
