Tires designed specific for front 4wd

Was looking at tires for my Ford 3910
and saw these firestone ones listed but
they say they are designed specifically
for the front of 4 wheel drive tractors.
Anyone know what's different about them,
the price is right for a 10 ply tire,
and they seem to have more lugs than a
standard rear which would be a good
thing for road wear. Is there some
reason I shouldn't use these on the
back? Will they ride different, or
handle weird?

They usually have a stiffer side wall. I have used them on utility tractors like Ford 861 and they worked fine. Actually they seemed ride better with less Bounce to them at road speeds.

Good to know, my 3910 gets used a fair bit for hauling on the road so more lugs for wear and less bounce would be a plus, heavy tillage might have less traction with the close lugs but that isn't an issue in my uses

I think you're on to something with the idea about more lugs making the tire wear better. The front tires do the turning and a lot of skidding and scratching. A tire that wears better while still providing traction assist is an attractive concept.

Newer roadside mowing tractors have even gone one further, with what look like military tread traction tires on the MFWA rather than lug tires.

Just make sure they are the correct diameter. You are dealing with 4WD and tire size is very important. check Manufacturer specs.

The look like industrial tires, think back-hoe. I have considered replacing mine with the industrial tire.... including the back.

Have heard of quite a few people having problems with the casings not holding up when running 6 ply tires on the front of 4wd tractors.

I am guessing they are advertising the 10 ply tires as being for the front of 4wd tractors to address this problem.

If they were 6 ply I would stay away from them.
The 10 ply I would not hesitate to use.

These will be for the rear of my 3910
ford that's why I was wondering if there's any problem or disadvantage to using them as rears

Mark those were introduced because Firestone realized regular tires wear out very quickly on FWD tractors. I started selling them in the late 1980's and realized they were very effective controlling excessive wear. The casing is very heavy compared to other 10 ply tires. They are designed to put up with the twisting and turning forces when a loader or other heavy attachment is on the tractor. The bars are very close together, I am not sure if you would like them on the rear of your little tractor. I am wondering why you need 10 ply tires? If I were still in the tire business I would probably not have recommended them to you. Any good luck with your decision.

Well the advantage I see is better wear with more bars, better puncture resistance with 10 ply, and the are 50 bucks cheaper than a different brand 6 ply, what would be the disadvantages?
