??Sending a tractor overseas???

I posted a tractor for sale earlier this week and got a message from a person that was interested and wanted to know if I could ship it to England. I have never had to deal with anything like this before, what's the odds of this being a scam? If it is a bonified offer, how do you handle it? It's a "H" JD so not too heavy. I think I ought to just ignore it and not worry about it.

I'd ask at an antique car forum, it's much more common there. Could be a scam, could be legit. If the offer is strong enough to warrant the extra work okay. IMO I would expect a premium to work out such shipping arrangements unless they are taking care of everything from pick up at your place going forward. Still the scam factor... Nothing short of cleared funds would work for me. If you just posted you could see if you can muster up some local interest. Scams happen anywhere, but overseas always is a bit scary because it's not something you do on a regular basis.

If it is not a scam, google "Haukos Bros. in Glencoe, MN." They regularly ship farm equipment overseas, especially to Russia.

if its legit, let the. buyer handle the shipping. a neighbor sold his lexion combine to a guy from germany. they sent a crew to his farm to completely clean the combine, then it got trucked to a shipping port in florida, cleaned again and put on a ship.

A JD H is a pretty popular tractor here.Should be easy to sell without the agrivation of an overseas sale, even if it is legit.

Agreed. I had a friend who sold an old Mercedes on Ebay stipulating only domestic sales. Some opera star in Bulgaria bought it and arranged the payment first and all the shipping so my friend had to do nothing.

I ran an ad for a very nice Ford 4000 (3 cyl) a few years ago.
Had 3 people wanted to buy it to ship overseas.
One from Vietnam, another from Africa somewhere and the third from Belize. The guy from Africa said he has bought several 4000s and shipped them.
He uses a container, puts the tractor in it then entirely packs it in with used but useable car tires. I told them all I would deliver it free within 25 miles once they had paid in Cash.
A guy from upstate MN ended up buying it.
My impression of the foreign guys is that they were legit though. They didn't buy it because it was 'restored' and they didn't want to pay for fancy.

sold one to some nigerian fellers who actually showed up.. I refused to ship!!!, demanded cash only!!!, and would only sell "in person" !!! so refused to sell over the phone!!!... They came back with cash, and had a trucker pick it up and sent to the port of houston... They also purchase a lot of farm equipment from other folks to fill the container.

Even though my alarms were going off, I checked the bills with a counterfiet pen, and all went well. These guys were african- american, spoke very very poor english, and each one weighed 75 lbs dripping wet... So yes.. it can be ligit....

I sold one of my parade wagons to a buyer in Sweden. He asked me to deliver it to a business in New Paris, Indiana where he added it to a crawler and other stuff he was buying in the U.S. He paid me for the wagon and my delivery fee to Indiana via PayPal before I hauled the wagon to Indiana. It worked good for both of us.

That does sound questionable, especially if you have any potential buyers that wouldn't require shipping overseas. If you can't, then see if he can actually send you payment and cover the cost of shipping. No need to worry about looking into it until that part's settled. A-1 Auto Transport is the only company I know of that does that sort of thing, but I'm sure there's probably a handful of others too. Just make sure you don't have to foot the bill for shipping. I'm sure it's very expensive.
