Leaf Tour In The Merc

Down the highway and through the woods to Grandpa's house in the Merc to see the autumn leaf colours. Got some Gopro from the roof of the Merc down the highway followed by drone view of the woods as I drove through. It worked well. No crashes of drone or car.

Nice video. Do a lot of people speed on that stretch of blacktop? Looks like it would be a real raceway. What are the predominant tree types in the area? Looks like there plenty of dead trees from flooding.

Speed limit is either 100 or 110 kph (65 mph) on most of our highways but most seem to go a little faster. Speedometer is not yet functional on the old Merc but I don't think I was running much over 50 in that less than a mile run. Camera makes it look faster though. Got a "thumbs up" from the gravel truck driver at the corner. Guess he is an old car fan. I took the highway to avoid the dust from all that heavy gravel truck traffic.

Mostly poplar (trembling aspen) here. And yes, I could heat my home with wood for years on all that dead wood from the flooding. The beavers are in trouble I guess but it will be nice to have our roads and flooded acres back.

I'll tell you this, that old pavement feels smooth as glass after driving on the gravel grid roads. Steel belted radials don't seem to soak up the bumps like the old bias ply tires used to in the 60s.
