Plowing with a Cub

A friend gave me a Brinley plow plow he used on a wheel horse. I never gave it much thought but this year when the garden needed to be plowed I thought I'd give it a shot. It worked great .

Times have certainly changed. In 1948, the man that owned the movie theater in my home town, bought a new Cub and 1 bottom plow. He said that he paid for that outfit by plowing gardens for hire. Seems everyone had a garden back then.
Thanks for stirring my memory.

I don't want to be a Negative Nelly, but did you leave the drawbar
bolts loose and let the drawbar raise up and down with the plow?
I think that would be a bad idea. It took me 5 years to find good lower
assemblies to rebuild my cub rear end because mine were cracked.
I am glad it worked for you but be careful! :)

I had a cub complete with the original single furrow plow.
The beam attachment to drawbar was spring loaded and the beam had a twist in it so the plow was landed correctly when sitting in the furrow.
To use it, the draw bar was reversed to the front so that the attachment point for plow beam was closer to the center of the tractor.
I suppose this provided better traction as the plow would pull whole the tractor down.
I used to plow in second gear wide open throttle - no problem

no cultivators yet. I have a plow for it but it was missing the lever to set it. So I tried the little 12 inch brinley. A few were sold here lately and I thought I'd see if I could use it. I'm getting too old to stay behind a hand tiller for very long.
