How reliable is Sirius radio in the mountains out west? I know it's satellite but so is dish network and I know how unreliable that is.

If you had a sheer cliff right on the S side of the road it probably wouldn't work, but I suppose it's like TV satellites, the farther S you are the more they are above you. I remember the first time we went to Acapulco I noticed the dishes were pointed almost straight up. We have it in our car that we do most of our traveling with and it works quite well. When we drive by our Target store it cuts out for a few seconds and also a couple of spots on the street coming home because of large trees.

I've had XM radio for 13 years. Went coast to coast and never had a problem. I don't leave home with out it. I vacationed last year in WY, MT, SD for three weeks. No problem with my Sirius XM radio.

You will have more trouble when you are down town with a building on your south side than you will in the mountains.

If a semi is beside me at a light it doesn't work.If i'm at the local fast food place with car hops and a roof you park under it doesn't work.If you drive down an alley between buildings it doesn't work.

You need to move the antenna. I don't think other than a car wash or inside a building have I ever lost signal.

When I got a new PU in 2010, I got a free sirus. I soon found out that the commericals were just as frequent and the DJs were just as obnoxious as regular radio. So why pay for it. I have good cds.

I have had Sirius Radio for at least 12 years and I don't know where you have to listen to commercials but I never hear them. I listen to mainly music channels and it is 24/7 continuous music. Pay the subscription on an annual basis saves a lot of money and as others have stated, I trucked all over the country and inside a tunnel is about the only place there is no service.

Interesting.

In 8+ years I do not remember ever hearing a commercial on Sirius XM, except when my subscription expires, when it reverts to 100% commercial for renewal.

I routinely allow my subscription to expire in order to renew at 50% rates. I refuse to pay $200/yr to listen to the radio but will pay $100/yr to listen to 50s on 5.

Some of the channels are now more or less local channels on SXM. Cant think of the one I'm thinking of, but its a local out of I think New York. I haven't found a station yet that's 100% music and no talking at all, but they do talk less than any of my locals here. I have just about had it with SXM, and will most likely not renew my subscription.

The antenna is on the fender of my 2014 silverado,no way to move it.Been like that on my last three trucks.

The trouble I had it was anything blocking the south would block the signal. Tall buildings, mountain passes, etc.

The thing I did not like about it for music is that the tunes sounded flat. They just are not as vibrant. I had a good radio too. Regular radio sounded fine. This is form a none music guy too.

I had it for free but I would never pay a single dime for it. It is kind of like cable TV. Hundreds of channels but lots of repeating shows. If you listen to the channels much they start to repeat the same stuff you heard the day before or last week.

I'm in hills in central MA and we do get interruptions in service when driving but only in tunnels. and hills that are on a southwest side. But it's only a couple f seconds usually . Traveling to Vermont or New Hampshire hills and Mtns the interruptions are much longer. When I traveled out to the midwest didn't seem to be interruptions st all, unless between buildings in the city.
.

That is your normal FM/AM antenna on the fender. The XM come through the black thing on the cab of the truck. Same thing the On-Star would use. Either way still not movable.
