It looks like the belt on out 1542 Husqvarna is starting to fray again, where would be the best place to order a kevlar belt? I think the last one we ordered was pretty low quality. I have checked all the sheave alignment and the bearings seem good, so I think it's just a cheap belt. Thanks!

Ebay? anywhere you get it I would ask for the "Green belt"....not sure what it is but it is higher grade- I put one on my mower three yrs ago and it still looks new.

If the belt runs with a back side idler you need to use a green belt as the cords are placed different in the belt so it can go around a pulley on either side. (Back side or V side)

You could have a cheap belt or you are driving too fast and grass is too tall.

I found Lowes is cheaper than local lawn mower repair shop.

If you go to ebay or amazon, buy only brand name kevlar. Spend a little more and save time replacing it. I avoid off brand china belts.

I found an old belt falling apart causes bearing damage. I replace mine at first sign they are falling apart.

I don't know if they are V Belt Global Supply, LLC or not, but I just did business with them for a flat, 6 rib belt for my air compressor. Super price, easy online purchase and had it in 2 days UPS normal shipping. Impressed!

Great information. I have a White mower going through belts and have checked for burs on the pulleys, as well as other things that might cause it. Can't find anything wrong. Never thought I might be using the wrong type of belts. Both PTO and deck belts I've been buying are black and inexpensive.
Thanks

I have an old Case 442 that would go through 2 or 3 belts a summer.
Tried the fancy ones, the green ones, the 6 sided ones, the ones from the dealership, none lasted any longer than the others.
Broke a belt one weekend and did not have a spare, went out to the shop a grabbed a B series belt that was a spare for the swather that was the right length, that belt has been on it for 8+ years now and still looks like new.
It is fatter than the proper belt and sticks out of the pulleys somewhat but that has not caused any issues.

I bought one of those green belts for three times the price. It didn't last any longer than the cheap ones. I now order all my belts from surpluscenter.com. I order 2 belts for all the different sizes that I need.

Well I might as well jump in. When I got done "restoring " my Husqvarna GT-2254 the mower belt and deck were giving me all kinds of wear and vibration problems. Hate to tell ya but drop the deck. Check every pulley for alingnment and any deformation like chips, kinks, bends ,and especially rust or pitting. I had to clean every pulley on my deck, all 5 of them with a real heavy duty wire wheel in an electric drill. You want all of the contact surfaces spotless and shinny, and perfectly smooth. Also make sure the two pulleys on youre mandrels are running true and also the bearings are ALL quiet and smooth. If not replace the idler or what ever is making noise. Now crawl under the machine and inspect the pulley on the bottom of the machine. It also must be spotles and true. Saw someone bend that pulley by hitting a piece of firewood. Anyway. After I followed this matainance on my machine it runs as smooth and quiet as you can want. A truly extreme check is before you drop your deck, remove all of the blades, start the machine and engage the mower. If everything is good you should barely hear the deck running. If it is making all kinds of noise then drop the deck and find them.. Takes a little time but you can check everything under there till you find some kind of a mechanical bug. I love the Kevlar belts they have at Tractor supply! Three of them on machines and they are holding up very well.
