Green Tomato Pie??

Just trying to find ways to use up the tomatoes. Found Green Tomato Pie on the net and it sounds good...supposed to taste like Apple pie. Got the 'maters sliced and getting ready to try it.

I was wondering if any of y'all had Green Tomato Pie??

Nope... but I'll try a sliver of it! :)

I wasn't there to taste it - but my sister made a green tomato pie and took it to work. Everybody loved it. And yes, I guess it tastes much like apple pie.
 
Taste test results:::
Taste- OK, sugary, cinnamony and nutmeg. Just like apple pie.

Looks- just like apple pie.

Texture- Awful! Slimy gooey mess.

It taste great. It is a real treat. Have not made it the last few years because of the shortage of tomatoes. The rule in our family was that you had to have a ripe tomato on the vine before any green ones were picked for the pie.
 
I've never had this kind of pie, but I have to ask--did you eat it warm? Warm pie is delicious, but it's also true that many types of pie are really runny and messy when warm. Once they've cooled down and set up they can be altogether different.
 
Rich'sToys- It was room temperature. The texture was like
what I would guess it would be like to pop a garden slug
in my mouth.
 
Would like to try some of that pie, I've eaten fried green tomatoes all of my life but never heard of them used in a pie
