So I was at the NH dealership to get some haybine parts. I
needed a new PIN for the yoke on the PTO. I guess they no
longer make the original style. I guess they're dangerous.
They will sell you a new replacement for $58. Well that
ain't happening. I stopped at the JD dealership and same
story from them but they'll sell me a replacement for $28. I
think I bought the old style for $5 last time. I guess it's
getting a 1/4" bolt through the PTO.

Ok, I'm confused. What kind of "PTO pin" is this?

If it's the kind with the spring wire clip on it, you can get those at Tractor Supply for about $1 each. My CaseIH dealer has them in a plastic bin out in the store display area.

What does this $58 pin look like?

I remember when I worked at Central Tractor around 20 years ago our store received a memo to pull that pin kit from our shelf. I never heard any of the details but somebody who got hurt had a really good day in court in terms of a settlement. I am not saying that was justified but that is what happened. We were already selling the PTO yokes with the drive in roll pin to secure the latch pin. The ones that with a little rust that roll pin was never coming back out when the spring failed. So the retailers had additional incentive to pull that at the time 3.50 clip, spring, and pin kit and instead have the customer buy a at the time 20 dollar plus yoke depending on the size needed.

You will notice in your google pics, it's all the new style, not the one the type the original poster is asking about.

The two on the far right, especially the one furthest right, are the "old style" that I think the poster is talking about. At least that's the type that I've always used.

I believe the sorting of the pics is different for everyone viewing the link. Mine shows all manual lynch pins with the bail type spring retainer. If I scroll down a few pages you see other types of the repair kits for the spring loaded push pin.

Bolt with a nylock nut is better anyway, IMHO. I never need to unhook an implement without having a few tools around.

Our local farm store has them. They don't stay on the shelf long though - I guess there are a lot of us still using the old stuff. I bought two just for the future.

This is what I'm seeing at the link. Perhaps somebody can explain which pictures are which if we're all looking at the same pictures.

I think this is what the original poster is looking for. I saw it at All States Ag.

With that clip on the far side, it has been phased out due to that lawsuit mentioned, can catch a pants or shirt a little easier.

New pins do not go all the way through, as mentioned they also can rust up and hard to loosen any nore....

In Bob's post below, its number 3 and 4. I think this is what the poster was thinking about, because he said he'll just put a 1/4 inch bolt through the PTO- can't do that with the spring-loaded push pin type.

Same thing here; I needed a pin for the front undercarriage of my NH backhoe. Dealer wanted $60 plus some. Didn't happen, used a bolt.
