I started taking the shower valve apart, that hasn't been apart for years. Just a little more force on the handle nut, and it should come apart. Well that didn't happen. I twisted the valve head right off. I was able to have access from a closet behind the shower. Naturally the valve is obsolete. I had to adapt another brand. At least I got it replaced before dark, and got the water back on. Sad part is the shower has never been used for years., and no one uses it. I should left it alone and let someone else worry about it. Has anyone wish they hadn't messed with something? I know I have a few times. Stan

Oh yeah, I can relate, my Mom's house has hard water and if you there is a small leak it ends up an all day job because all the pipes are paper thin. It should all be changed to pex. Last fall I decided to fix the one sink before my brother and his wife came for Christmas. When I tried to take the faucet apart to replace the washer it twisted off behind the sink. Old sink not standard hole spacing so replaced sink and all.

Why was I messing with it you ask. The wife kept nagging me about it. She put up a new shower curtain even though the shower didn't work, Now she wants me to take off the wall paper I put up 20 years ago. It never ends. Stan

Whlie at mom's house one day I decided to replace her outdoor yard facuet. After I paid for supplies and started out of store the little girl cashier called out"we are here til 6;30 tonight". WHAT??? She said everybody that buy's plumbing stuff always come's back 2 or three times for more.

bsolutely! :x

I can relate to going back to the store. Seems every time I do plumbing it is an all day job and requires 3 trips to town.

We (fortunately) have a hardware store within 3 miles. Every time I start a plumbing project all the folks are joking "See you again in 20 minutes! Hahahahahaha! They are usually right. Not uncommon to require three or more trips, since all of the plumbing parts I have laying around never fit the current job.

I pretty much hate plumbing also. About 2 weeks ago wife says "we have a problem". Seems the drain under the kitchen sink started leaking. So, on my back, under the sink with a flash light, determine the nut holding the first section of drain has deteriorated (it was metal), so I take everything apart (PVC), take to town and get a new one, put it in and it leaks where the nut attaches to the sink drain (the nut is PVC on this one. So, after numerous attempts to stop the leaking, finally determine the threads on the drain are corroded also. Another trip to town for a new drain, get it put in and all is well....so far. Thanks to a youblube video I got the old drain out without much trouble and the new one installed.
