My latest pile looks like that but not sure it is worth it anymore. I no longer have my own stands of hardwoods (just tamarack, cedar, and poplar here). So a trailer load of ash, beech, and maple cost me $850. I then spent two weeks cutting and splitting and stacking. Later have to start bringing it into the basement by my furnace. With wood pellets at $180 a ton, not sure using firewood here is worth the bother and expense.

John, I can understand both the cost of heating with wood as the cost keeps going up& up every year. You might consider an outdoor wood boiler-furnace to heat your house and shop. When the water temperature reaches the setting you set it for, that's what it will stay at. No inside dust, wood smell, dirt etc is a thing of the past! We fired up our unit to see how it works, and boy is it conservative of what we burn so far. Wish we had the boiler long before the inside furnace, one in the garage one in the house. If we were to fire both, wood doesn't last long. Required 13+ loggers cord,at $80.00 bucks a cord, plus cutting, splitting, stacking, carrying out the ashes, filters, creasote destroyer etc. Oh by the way, we found the information on the O.C.capasaties we asked you for plus the G.L.1 requirements, it was in our manual.Sorry to ask unneeded information Good to see you posting again. Warmest regards,Lou& Victor.

That sounds high for a ton of wood pellets. I am luck to be about 25 miles from the sawmill that bags excellent quality pellets. Local Menards had them on sale for $3.11 after 11% rebate for 40 # bags so I bought a pallet of 60. Transportation may be a price killer in your area though.

I have three piles like that under cover and one outside waiting for room. I will burn two stacks like that each heating season. I do have a wood lot but I have been buying the truck loads of logs because I do not trust myself in the woods anymore.
