Had the 8N out yesterday teaching my wife how to operate it, running like a champ, she did well on it. Shut it off and did some other stuff came
back to the tractor and it would barely turn over, had to grab my charger/starter. Hooked it up, plugged it in (I've done this a few times before)
push the starter button, release the starter button and tractor continues to turn over (slowly, not firing) without the button pushed! Unplug
charger as quick as I can, turn key off and now? Nuthin ... Seems the switch is bad now I'm thinking something burned up, battery is good but
no power when pushing starter button.

First issue I've had with it since I got it running good last year. I'm not sure where to start in trying to get her going again, was a bugger trying to
get it back in the shop, dang that thing is heavy. Any help is appreciated.

Starter might have stuck engaged due to low power. turn engine over by hand and tap on starter .Try it again.

Check your battery connections. Usually one or more gets corroded and you end up with a bad connection. They need to be cleaned until only shiny copper is visible. Any blue or white crusty stuff must be removed. If the wires are at all black, they must be replaced.

Cable connections, both ends. Cheap to do, clean all 4 ends up and reseat them.

Key/ starter button. Or a wire along the way. You can jump around this to test, but man you have to be certain you are doing this safely, it is so easy to leave the tractor in gear by accident and run yourself over..... Please be very careful. Very careful.

Starter is weak or messed up, replace/ rebuild.

Not sure on 8N, but on my Farmall H when I ran the same symptoms, I ran the battery ground wire directly over to the starter mount bolt, and made a world of difference, and starts immediately now. Eliminates all the resistance of the rusty old frame joints and corrosion and etc.

The battery was low (possibly not charging, possibly a bad abttery?) or a bad connection.

That lead to a "high amp" draw on the starter solenoid that welded the contacts.

Might want to charge the battery, have it load tested to be sure it is good, check all the connections, replace the solenoid just to be sure it doesn't do it again.

Sounds to me like the starter push button contacts may be stuck together ! Possibly from having the charger on while cranking ! May have produced enough voltage to weld the contacts together ?
