6 ply front tires

I am looking at ordering a pair of Carlisle 600x16" 6 ply 3 rib tires, for my Moline 335 loader tractor. They are to be used, to feed big round bales, and to clean up manure from the cows. I know that I am being somewhat tight, but I can get them for $66.40 a piece. 8 ply would cost considerably more. My question is will 6 ply, hold up to my loader work, or should I splurge on 8 ply? I bought it 4 years ago, with 650 x 16" truck tires on it, and in spite of being weather checked, they have given me 4 years, before one failed with a side wall owie, and I beleve they are 6 ply.

I would splurge. The deal is reliability. Old truck tires are probably rated higher. Ply ratings are pretty obsolete. Load rating is more accurate. My 51 GMC has 3 ply steel plies. Rated at 12 ply. Jim

Me 2. I would definitely go for tougher tires. That loader equals like 2X the wear and tear on your front pair of shoes. With a full bucket of cow s.....swinging and squirming side to side, that1 is a lot for a tire to take. You ever take a look at the side walls as a fully loaded green chop wagon goes by? When that tire is almost pinched flat from tread to rim. Aahhhhh!

About 10 years ago I bought a JD 2510. It doesn't have a loader on it and like you I tried to be cheap. I put 600x16 Carlisle tires on it. If I remember it was like $50 a tire from TSC. They were the worst tires I've ever owned. I honestly believe they had a thorn magnet made inside them. If you drove within 50 feet of a thorn they'd somehow suck em in. Any money I saved buying the tires I more than made up for buying patches. I fought those tires for about 2 years until I decided I'd had enough. I bought new rims and went to a better tire and went with 7.5L 15 tires. They're a little wider and carry a load better. In that time I've had 1 flat with them. They also don't show as much wear in 8 years as those 600x16's showed in 2. After that I decided to try to run the best tractor tires possible. Cheap just got to expensive and wasn't worth the headache.

Shoot I would stay with the truck type tires. Around here I can pick them up for the cost of stopping in and picking them up. I just picked up 2 235/75R-16 tires today for nothing

That's a pretty narrow/small tire for a loader.I would shoot for a 7.50x16(or bigger). Even if I had to get different rims.

Big round bales even a 6:50 is not enough and a 6:00 is smaller yet. Look for a 7:50 or a LT tire in at least a 335 size.

If I was still in the tire business, spent 22+ years in it, those tires would cost you $51.44 each + tubes. That is put on the rim at the shop. Do yourself a favor, buy another brand. Firestone's would be my recommendation for a loader tractor. 3 ribs will steer far easier than the wore out truck tires.

Well, I asked for the voices of experience, and certainly got it! So Carlile is out, and 600x16 is out, but I still want 3 rib's to help me with turning,in sloppy manure. THANKS GUYS!

7.5L-15's are the same height as your 6.50-16 but are a little wider and have a higher weight rating, but you'll need 15" rims.
7.50-16's are a couple inches taller and have a higher rating than 7.5L-15's.
To get the best performance from the 7.50-16's you'll need 6-6.5" wide rims, your tractor probably has 5" rims.
