MF 165 slow revving up

I just put new friction washers in the throttle shaft so it would stay in place when revved up. The problem has happened a couple times in the last few days. When you open the throttle the engine is slow to respond and revs up slowly. I was mowing hay with it yesterday and I had a hard time in 3rd low where I usually cut much higher hay in 1st high. I wonder could it be a problem with the fuel or the filters. I'm leaning toward the filters, it sat all winter but was used on the first cutting of hay. Gonna go get some new filters and some fuel conditioner. What do you guys think. Dieseltech, I tried to call you this morning but no answer.

Your stated ideas are a good place to begin. Diesels make low power for three reasons. blocked air (black abnormal smoke)
Restricted fuel supply or return
Failing fuel pump or governor in the pump

I will second change the fuel filters. Perkins can be fussy on clean fuel/filters and horsepower out put. IF you find nothing in the filters check the fuel lines. I have had crap restrict the lines and that will act like yours is doing.

The pump was just gone completely thru by Diesel Tech year berfore last so I pretty much have ruled that out. Thanks for responding .

I will third the filters and also when the filters are off then open the valve under the tank and see if how much flow you have, if not much flow there is the lift pump and the valve under the tank that can plug up. There is a screen on the valve that sticks up in the tank that will get coated and restrict flow!

We put new filters on it and some sea foam in the tank. It sure responds quickly now and revs a quite a bit higher than it was. The primary filter was pretty darned dirty & how it got there I don't know but a gravel a little bigger than a match head was in the bottom of it. Thanks guys for the help in confirming my thoughts.
