Hydraulic spool valve noise - normal?

After finally getting my tractor back together again and the internal hydraulics working, I thought I'd check to see if the new filter I put on the engine driven pump (for the loader) had made any difference.

It did, the rams raised smoothly but once at the top, the valve (single action cylinder) juddered and the return hose shook - is this normal behaviour or is something terribly, terribly wrong?

You should not hear a valve and hose should not shake. That means you have a bad valve someplace.

Quite possibly air as system was completely drained. I'll cycle it a few times and hope it bleeds out
