August First Cutting

With the weather we've been having this summer, there's lots of first cutting still standing. I baled some last night though, that actually didn't look half bad for mid August (the picture isn't the greatest - I need a new phone). I mowed Sunday AM, tedded it late Sunday and my kid tedded it again noon Monday, and I baled Monday evening, so it didn't get too bleached. That, and the second growth coming on helped - good enough for horses and beef cows I guess

We sometimes stay rainy well into July in western Washington (not this year- hasn't rained since mid-June), and it seems like the hay quality is still OK (not great, but OK) if you get after it when it stops raining. You've got a couple of weeks before it is completely shot.

I did some mulch hay first cutting last week. Same crew as ACG, me, myself, and I.

Yes, very late.

Sprayed the field for broad-leaf weeds on March 11th.

Fertilized the hay field on April 10th.

Agree with [b:654c4848f0]mss3020[/b:654c4848f0]'s statement "[i:654c4848f0]cant get 4 days or even 3 days clear[/i:654c4848f0]".

Already have the hay sold and hope that the sun will come out eventually.

Finished first cutting yesterday, rolling up 170 bales, I have 100 of them sold. Going to start 2nd cut at home tomorrow I guess. Stupid year , baled 242 bales of wheat straw before I could get the last of first cut done, just weird , I am a month behind.

Looks great! How many of those wooden rack kicker wagons do you have and how many bales can you get in them? Can't remember - you have a New Holland 316 or 276? I guess with those wagons you can clip along pretty good. Unloading the same day baling?
