B414 PTO Shaft Slipping

Several days ago while cutting with my rotary mower, I got into some heavy wet grass and the pto first kicked out of engagement. Then after starting again, when I hit a heavy patch, the entire shaft started slipping (including shaft into tractor). I also heard a click/clunk. I immediately stopped and drove back to my barn. I pulled the rear shaft. It had what I would say is minor wear on the very end, but it doesn't appear to be enough to cause slippage. I have not removed the engage "clutch/gear" yet to examine. Ive had this tractor for 4 years and haven't had any pto issues except for replacing the engage lever last year.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, is your PTO engagement lever bent? It is a very simple mechanism, PTO lever mechanism has a pin the runs in a groove in a
collar that slides over the rear PTO drive shaft connecting the front PTO drive shaft to the rear shaft. Is the rear PTO shaft
seated properly? rear C-clips and retainers limiting the rear shaft end play?

The PTO clutch could be slipping but usually it does the opposite where it will not release and you can't engage PTO without
turning engine off.

JimB2,

I suppose it could be as simple as the lever being bent. I'll be back on my property on Saturday and will definitely check. That lever is fairly flimsy. Do you recommend pulling the bottom cover to watch the movement since I've already drained the oil?

Hi, if you had one of those bore scopes that plug into your smart phone, I would try to lookup into the diff case from the drain
hole in the bottom of the diff case or the drain hole below the PTO shaft. Make sure the rear PTO shaft is going all the way into
the alignment pin between the front and rear PTO shafts.
