Finally remembered to get a pic of a WD9 a local guy has restored. It was out on display at the Mud bogs/car show today. It ran nice.

Yes they are Diesel , start on gas , once running and warm , you pull a lever too switch over to Diesel. There have always been some around here , Bought new for running Forage harvesters and ploughing. Old fella passed that bought one new , just a few miles from me , he had a Dairy farm , with many newer tractors , but the WD9 was his pride and joy. Brought ten Grand on the auction.

I remember seeing those in The Farm (I think) magazine in the '50's. I told dad we needed one. He said "those are for wheatland", too big for our farm. That was then, in later years he had tractors with lot more hp than those. I still think they're impressive (compared to H's and M's).

Here's a "before" picture of one I just bought, $1,500 delivered.

It's not a Super, though it does have live hydraulics.

On them the D in the model stands for diesel as in WD9, if it was the gas version it would be just W9, Same with the W6 and WD6 and M or MD. Same with the W40 or WD40 that is earlier.

I got one in the mid 60's from rutland ND $325.00. Didn't run real well--had the injection pump rebuilt--another $300.00 and had it set to 75 hp--pretty good for a non super. Pulled an oliver 4440 4-16 plow in HEAVY ground in 2nd and 3rd gear. Dad farmed sandy ground and could plow in 4th gear there. Still have it in the shed. loved that old horse, hence my name for this site.

Apparently this one I posted is a Super WD9. It ran nice but has some starting problems. I heard it needed a pull start when it was time to go home. There were a lot of those W9 and 6 tractors around when I was a kid.

My dad had a wd9. It was his favorite tractor. He bought it non running. He cold welded the head. Tractor ran great till he loaned it out and it came back with the block cracked.
