I saw this when viewing link below. Reminded me when I dumped a load with dump trailer and forgot to open the rear gate. Lifted the rear wheels of my pickup off the ground.

Has this happened to you?

51 chevy 14' dump with 18 foot 2X12s WHen driving the front was awfully light. We drove out from under it saving an hour and a half unloading, and making a pretty good stack! Jim
 
Looks like a mid to late 1950's Chevy truck body. Neighbor bought one some 40 years old, years ago. Truck body was short for the bed like this one. He didn't dump it like this one but since the load was pretty much balanced over the rear axle, there wasn't any weight (to speak of) on the front axle. On country roads especially, it walked all over the place requiring constant steering corrections.

Doubt you'd have that problem with the IH farm trucks you see/saw plenty of where the rear axle is well "aft" of the CG of the bed.
 
years ago i was on a demolition job with a ford 10 wheel dump--the concrete debris jammed up in the tailgate and put the front end about 10 ft up--boss decided then to lower the tail gates for future loads
 
So that looks like the box broke off the frame cause I don't see any lift cylinder(s) and he is in the middle of the road?
 
One of the places I worked for years ago had a dump truck with the air ride system that would do that every once in a while. Got to where if some one was driving that one they would have a guy stand and watch the front end and if it started to go up they would signal the guy to let the bad back down and try again
 
A number of years ago I worked road maintenance for forest service we had a Ford tandem axle dump
that the box was a little too far back, okay dumping but spreading rock front end would come up about
4 feet just rode it out it would come down as you spread, many loads like that. New guy came on board
first time it happened he hit clutch front came down collapsed front axle, he had been warned!
 
I have seen at least one dump body come off, on a landfill cap job, high moisture clay for added weight and something failed.

When hauling wet material, so wet it would settle flat in the box, when dumping, the suction would hold it and the front end would come up as high as the one in the photo. I was good at slowly letting it down as the load finally came out. It takes some skill and or ability to feel your way through it. It did not seem possible that the material would release too fast and the front would slam down. It took some effort to get the material to start moving.
 
In high school I had a '56 F6 5 yard dump that I would use to deliver bark and top soil after school, it would do that sometimes with sand or pit run. much fun
 
used to do that as SOP in unloading 100 barrel empty oil tanks with a single axle flatbed dump. They put new guys in the truck & didn't tell'em what would happen, hoping to watch'em panic. I'd had enough experience to know how to handle it so they got no kicks out of me. You just calmly wait for'em to come back down as the tank slids off.

I don't think so.
See the "lay" down Hyd. Cyl. which was common back in the Day, close to the rear of the box.
Also see the frame guides sticking up, and the oil reservoir.

Been there myself when forgot to open the end gate.
You only do that once.

I had a triaxle load of wet rough loam one time, that put so much pressure on the gate that it would not trip.I didn't get the front off the ground though. There was a very steep hill on a nearby road, so I went around to the top, drove down the hill and jammed on the brakes, pulled into the site again and it dumped that time.
