Accident update.

They amputated the neighbors leg Saturday. Not enough good bone left to do a joint replacement from what I understand.

Not good , but still better to be able to live on . How much did they take off ?

Don, agree with Bruce. Lost my leg 11 years ago. Still keeping on. Prosthetics are amazing nowadays. Have one but don't wear it. Just learn to do things a little differently. Tell them it beats the alternative. They will adjust. Tell your friend to keep a chin up and they still have a leg to stand on. Daughter says I have a ghoulish sense of humor.

I hope your neighbor will recover well... and thrive.

We met a man once who had lost both hands in a farm accident - just had a bit his hands left beyond his wrists.

I'm certain it was not easy for that man - but he really didn't let it slow him down. He kept farming and could drive, etc.

Was this the guy the tree fell on Don? Thats a tough break but he's alive and that's the big thing. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

Bruce, I don't know exactly, but since the knee was hopelessly smashed, I am assuming just above the knee.

Bret: yes it is. He's a high school friend from 30+ years ago, and comes from a long line of loggers, farmers and general hard-working outdoorsmen (and women, for that matter). He has a lot of family and community support, and I'm sure he'll do well once he heals up, but it certainly brings home the fact that logging is hard, dangerous work, even to someone who's been doing it all his life.

Yes. Know your neck of the woods fairly well as I graduated from Clarkson, so I spent 4 years up there.
