What sets you off?

I have a long list of things that can start my angry engine, but one of the things that really revs it up is someone trying to pass the blame to me for their error. Today's incident involves a badly loaded trailer. The first problem was it was too heavy in front. I knew it as soon as I backed under it, but my load gage confirmed it. The shipper wouldn't re-load it til I had a scale ticket so off to the scale I went. Not too bad as it was only a mile and a half each way. Here is the scale ticket.

1700lb over on the drives. So back to get re-loaded. After about an hour in the door they call me in and show me this.

Nearly the entire load had shifted a full pallet length forward. If a trailer is properly loaded there is no way for that to happen. But the person that loaded the trailer left an empty space in the front so as soon as I got the brakes the load moved forward. The problem started when the dock workers started trying to lay the blame on me. At first I explained that if the trailer had been loaded correctly this couldn't happen even if I hit the brakes hard. But since I went less than 3 miles total and never got over 30 mph it would be hard to stop hard enough to damage freight anyway. But he persisted so my final try was that there is a recording device on the truck that records sudden stops and starts, and it is very sensitive and often records when I have to stop hard or even if I take off too fast. I showed him this and the last recorded event was a sudden stop on 7/1/17.

That was when he said I wouldn't know any better because I was just a "dumb@## truckdriver". Lol. Not much will get me going more than that right there. I did hold it together, for the most part, and just left and told them to deal with Dart.

So what sets you off more than average?

People that lie to avoid responsibility or
get others in trouble. Had a sister who
blamed me for shooting her with a BB gun as
a kid. No amount of denying or insisting
she show where the BB hit could absolve me
from what didn't happen. That kinda ruined
it for everyone else. Don't get me wrong,
everyone has a streak of that in them
somewhere but it's on my list of least
favorites.

I'm a director on our farmer owned dairy coop. For
the last 2 years we've received 6-8 cents per litre
less for our milk and over the course of a year that's
an awful lot. Anyways since our pay cut markets are
growing leaps and bounds and the dairies including
the one I'm a director on is expanding like crazy and
making unprecedented profits while many/most
producers are struggling to make ends meet.
Anywho at a recent meeting after the boastful
financial report another director pointed out,if this
was any other industry a portion of these huge
profits would be shared with the producer, why is
this not the case. Long excuse short he was shut
down quicker than I don't know what. That makes
me very angry.

John: I have some ptsd, anger issues, and a bad temper so I work everyday to control it. For me it seems to be people that set it off!!!! I would rather deal with a messed up machine than a messed up person!!! Probably would have just pulled the pin and glad hands left landing gear up and drove off would have given them something to do!!!

While seeking information, asking the person behind the counter a question they can't answer and then being treated like I'M an idiot.

I've said it before, I don't know how you, or anyone that drives for a living, puts up with the idiots on the highways!

That may not be my worst problem, but it certainly is my most repetitive irritant.

If it was their trailer, I would drop the air bags and dolly down as much as I could without hitting the frame and drive away. Tell the dispatcher to find you another load. The forklift driver was long gone and a long shot even if they were still around, no recourse.

i had an uncle that had a load of potatoes backed into dock at a supermarket.
the guys that were to unload truck stood around bsing with each not making much effort to unload him.
he finally said nuts to this pulled around to parking lot in font of store opened the doors and stated to throw potatoes
on the ground it didn't take long for store people to decide to unload him.
the next time he went there with potatoes they were waiting to unload him before he stopped the truck.

had the owner of the Jd dealership do that to me 30 yrs ago ,as he wasflipping thru the pages in his rake parts book . He claimed Jd did not make a dolly wheel getup for a 851 Jd Rake , therefore i had a different brand of rake,NOT a JD ,.the second he said that the full page black and white pix of the dolly wheel appeared , and quik as a whip i thrust my hand on the page ,and exclaimed , "There it IS! " .. he had the bearings i needed too.. but he never admitedhe was wrong , much less apologized to me

Years ago, I had this hereford that was part deer (lol). She could clear a 5 strand barb wire fence.

Every day I came home from work there she would be, out in my hay field just chomping along. She'd hear me coming up my gravel drive and look at me and grin!. I chase her around the hay field times in my truck until she was done making fun of me. Then she'd jump back across the fence into the grazing pasture.

I came home one day and sure enough, there she was in the hay field waiting for the daily game of tag. I'd had enough and was going to run over her. I stomped on the pedal and spun tires in the gravel. Headed across that hay field bouncing up and down. I guess she figured I wasn't playing today. She spun around and went at a full run for the fence. I caught up to her just as her rear hooves left the ground. I hit her in the rear-end doing around 45-50 mph.

First time I ever saw a cow fly. I betcha' I knocked her over 30 feet before she hit ground. She got up and took off running. She was fine.

I looked at the front of my truck....bumper, grill, radiator and hood all caved in. Steam spewing from the busted radiator.

She never tried getting out again after that.

Jon, when I was driving and I had a problem with loading or unloading I would find the top manger or foreman and tell them what was going on, they took care of the problem rite away, even complained to the company owner one time did not take long for people to get moving freight out of the trailer.

"So what sets you off more than average?"

I went to a national chain auto supply store about a week ago and was about to purchase an item that was slightly under $10. AS I HANDED HIM A $10 BILL, the phone rang and the guy behind the counter who was waiting on me had to answer it. Of course, it was somebody calling in for a price check. For a full two minutes he talked to the customer and about every 20 seconds he whispered to me "Just a minute...."
I should have walked, but I needed the part that day. The real irony was that there were three other guys behind the counter doing absolutely nothing.

I picked up a load in Denver Co. Half to go to Southern Il. and the other to go to Pennsylvania. Of course they loaded the Illinois half in the front and the Pennsylvania half in the back. I caught it before I left and confronted the loader nicely. He said I should have told him how to load it. I told him I thought he should know how to do his job. I am pretty new at this and had a trainer with me. Of course they were going on fire drill test and then break. My trainer called the first stop location and they said they would reload it and charge the time to the shipper. We told the dock foreman this and went on our way. I would have waited but the trainer said "Scre_" it and we would have it charged back to the shipper. Didn't hear anything more about it. The loader probably got a donkey chewing. Every forklift driver I ever knew hated their job. By the way it takes a lot to set me off and this did not.

Especially those that pull out in front of you, poke along 15 mph less than the speed limit... you look in your mirror, no one's behind. They could have waited til you were past.

This is one of many things that can set me off. Our little church is at a crossroads with stop signs
facing our parsonage and the other way. A friend of mine, retired/widowed never stops unless there's
traffic coming. He'll slow down to 10-15 MPH and blow through, pi!!es me off!! Just hope he doesn't
hit/kill somebody one day!!

Jon when I was in refrigeration school
I worked at a grocery warehouse on i70
at at town called Bell Vernon. I
unloaded kellogs cereal an bush beans
an hienz products for 2 yaers. That
trailer is loaded wrong. The light
stuff went front to back top to the
heavy went in a pattern. The pattern
looks nothing like what's in your pics
lol someone has not a clue how to load
a trailer.

That irks me, too.

I was once in the process of buying several hundred dollars worth of parts at our local NAPA store when the phone rang. The owner was by himself, and talked on the phone for about 15 minutes.

When I commented that I would think a customer standing there with his checkbook in his hand should take priority over a phone call, he told me he did 80% of his business over the telephone. And with a community college in town with strong auto mechanics, auto body, and diesel programs, among others, I wasn't in a position to argue.

One time, though, I needed a bearing for a Mercruiser outdrive. The bearing had spun in the housing and part of the part number was obliterated. I went to a local Precision Bearing store and asked about a replacement. A dumpy little guy on the counter with a cigar in his face took one look at it and said, "It would be a &*%$(*^ waste of time to even try finding it".

I told him they weren't the only bearing place in town. I then went several blocks down the street to another bearing store. I handed my bearing to a rather friendly fellow behind the counter. He reached into his shirt pocket, got out a caliper, took a couple of measurements, reached onto the shelf behind him, and handed me an exact replacement. That really fried me. I got the manager of Precision Bearing on the phone and unloaded on him at length about the dork he had on his counter.

A couple of weeks later, I had to go into Precision Bearing on business for my day job. The dork with the cigar in his face was nowhere to be seen. It was early in the morning when he should have been there. I guess draw your own conclusions.

Most loads I picked up were live loads and I watched how it was loaded. If the load was already loaded when I picked it up it was signed for
as a shippers load and count and that our company was not liable for any damages.

People that pass you on left just to pull in front and then onto an exit.
Like "WTF, you really needed to beat me to the exit by 2 seconds that I'm not even getting off at???"
And I pass them while they are slowing down for that 25 MPH curve you know they are gonna take at 40-50 MPH.

I don't get wound up over it. Being a little older than the regular customers. The parts kid acts like I just fell off the train going through town, and the dumest person that day that walked into his store. Stan

They were probably texting or live streaming right up until the second they realized they were about to miss their exit.

I hate them and the ones. That will hang behind you will not pass. Until you come to a blind spot. Also hate the ones with the blue lights.

I noticed several truckers responded and I couldn't resist telling about an old trucker being"set off" one time. Little roadside dinner was only about half full when two bikers came in and walked up on each side of the old trucker siiting at the counter. One picked up his plate and eat his eggs and bacon. The other told him to move because he was sitting on the wrong stool. Old trucker got up and walked out. Bikers laughed it up and said to the waitress"isn't much of a man is he?" Cashier up front said"he isn't much of a driver either,he just ran over 2 motorcycles out in the parking lot".

Jon be glad they had you heavy on the front. If they had stacked I a little differently you could have been legal and found the mess when you delivered.

Today my truck is in the shop, for a steering box oil leak. Oil is coming out between the box and the frame. I was told that the whole box will need replaced, because the road salt / chemicals had pitted the shaft, and a new seal won't work/ hold. I replace more parts that are corroded, than I ever wear out. The use of the highly corrosive stuff for snow and ice control, is what sets me off!

Those statements about dock help is the biggest reason for not pulling a box trailer. I always liked the one about the dump trailer and the watermelons. told he had to unload them . He told them they better get to it. After that debate went around a couple of times he just let the hoist go with the tailgate tripped suddenly they could unload them. Don't know if it is true but always made me feel better.

I am a mechanic at a lawn mower shop. We repair equipment on a first come first serve order. The exception is if I can diagnose and fix it less than ten minutes or so. 98.6 percent of our customers understand this. There is that percentage of customers that think you should drop everything and fix their problem first no matter how long it takes or how many are ahead of them.

I worked at a semi trailer manufacturing plant for 13 years. 12 on second shift. The department I was in unloaded our own steel. Always enjoyed talking to the truck drivers.

The other thing is not being able to find parts I took off a project and put away. I have lost 2 tank mount clips for my JD A. I thought I put all four in the same container. As usual I will find them after I make or buy new ones.

Inefficiency gets me. We have four pumps in our building drain sump. All have supplied water for the seal packs. The seal water is only mildly filtered from the Lake, so it carries some sand, etc. The pumps tend to plug the seal lines, since, in Auto, only one usually runs, maybe two at times.

Our Maintenance department went to work on pump #1, but when they removed the seal line, the soldered copper line broke. So, #1 is isolated, broken.

While waiting for a new line, they go to work on #4- but find the seal water line plugged up solid, can't break it loose. #4 is isolated, broken.

Today, they want to expand the isolation boundaries to work on the #1 pump, which will actually take out all four pumps. And, while they are in there, they want to work the seal on #3 pump well.

Man, I got ticked. You've already proven you can break an anvil with feather duster, and now you want me to let you go for 75% of our equipment. NO! Fix #1 AND #4 today, don't even look at #2 or #3. IF you prove you can get the outside two fixed, then you can get to the other two.

Crap, I just started vacation this morning, and now you guys have got me all riled up, again.

It doesn't take much at all to set me off. I'm getting better, I think, at controlling it. But nothing pushes my buttons more than irresponsible idiots.

Services paid for or expected to pay for, but not rendered. From the president down to whatever you consider the most menial job there is, if I'm
paying you to do it, do it!

There was college kid in Lower all keen on selling the wonders of Ontario's Feed In Tariff solar panels. I asked him who pays this most recent contract's subsidized rate of 28.8 cents wholesale. That Hydro One has to purchase even when hydraulic electric sells power for 5 cents. Hydraulic has had to spill water and not generate just to allow solar to generate instead.
Kid said "the government pays for it". Asked the kid who is the government , where do they get their money from. And btw it is the electrical rate pays who pay an average of 42 cents wholesale for solar power. Care to guess why our retail power bills have went up?
Kid didn't know but he was going to call security anyways.

Pretty sure I've had a similar discussion with that kids twin brother about 50 times!!!

I couldn't think of one yesterday but it happened today. It is when a gas station is busy and someone pulls up to the pump, then goes inside and gets his lunch. Once last summer I waited a good fifteen minutes for a guy to come out. I was third in line when I got there so I expect that the first guy waited twenty five minutes. By the time the jerk came out there were five trucks in line, and the jerk was oblivious, until I walked right up to him and told him that I would not do the same thing to him. Then he got all apologetic.

All the kid can think about is his commission , he doesn't even want to know the facts.

The consequences of such an action would be too great to suit me.
Dropping a loaded trailer like that one that was already front heavy would result in extensive damage to the trailer. Landing gear would likely collapse, and trailer could potentially break in two. I've seen it happen. In a case like that, the driver would then become liable for damages.
Nope, Jon did the right thing. Let Dart deal with it.
