Some people are jerks

One of my kids has taken up selling cars for a living. Things are going well for him, but he had his first incidence with an unpleasant customer. He traded in a car on a new car a while back. The deal went well, the customer was happy. Company policy is to call a few days after to make sure things are going ok, this call went well. A week later he made a second check call and things were still good. A few days later he gets a call from the guy and he says he has a big problem. There was a CD in his old car that was of his daughter's wedding and not long after the wedding his daughter passed away. That CD was one of the few things he had to re.ember her by. My son said he would see if he could find it. Sadly the car was sold. He asked the salesman that sold it for the contact info on the buyer. The other salesman said good luck because the buyer didn't like his deal and was unhappy. But my son called anyway to try to get the CD back. The buyer of the car flat refused to give it to him. The company offered to go wherever he was to get it, to fill his car with gas and give him an extra gas card as well. My son offered extra cash as well. But the buyer just said "your not getting it, should have given me more for my trade and hung up.

Now I might be sympathetic if it was something from the company and he just wanted to get even. But to hold something sentimental from an innocent is just plain meaness in my book. How can people be so heartless? The guy who lost it was disappointed but understood there was nothing to be done.

The older I get the less I like people.

That is a horrible mean spirited way to treat anyone who lost a loved one. I wouldn't care how upset I might be after a deal , things like that top any hard feelings in my books.

I know of one such person right here on YT. I wanted to do a nice gesture for someone, so reached out for a little help. Nearly got my hands cut off in the process! (figuratively speaking, of course)

Yes, that's the very reason we live where and how we do. Wife is so fed-up that she won't even consider participating in a forum, although the vast majority of you folks have sure been a breath of fresh air for us.

Can't even begin to understand how you deal with it every day - all the traffic, road congestion, folks in a hurry, and the dangerous ones who cut you off, or worse!

Don't give up on mankind jon. If you do,the jerks win. Billy, all the people in the old days were not nice to each other, ask Jesus. I hope the guy realize's his feeling of being in charge is overshowded by his recconition of the need to do the right thing. If he doesn't,it's on him.

Your son is finding out how many people are in today's world.

I will say I find it a bother when I buy some thing to be bugged by the salesman multiple times after the sale. If I have an issue I will contact the salesman or dealer. I do not want to be bothered otherwise.

The guy with the CD is probably waiting for someone to offer him more money for it,yea he's being a jerk but then again if the CD meant so much to the first guy you'd think
he wouldn't have it left it lying around in a car either.

I've known mean spirted people all my life. Ain't nothing new. I had a neighbor in the 70's when I was a young man who always kept his yard looking very nice. He had a mild heart attack. While he was recovering I mowed his lawn a couple of times. He yelled at me because I didn't trim his bushes. No, society hasn't change one bit. Because of social media we hear more about things.

Amen. Don't waste yours and my time by bugging me after the sale. Especially with the stupid little card. Any time/effort/money should be invested for/before the sale, not after.
Feminization of society?

Sad story Jon.
There is just no way to decipher the reasoning of someone like that.
When you compare it to stories of a HS class ring found in a field in Germany and returned to the family of the dead soldier 60 years later or a battle sash found in a Japanese midget sub returned to the mother whos son wore it makes this guy seem all the more a jerk. Even our former enemies have more class than that.

Such a shame, bad karma will catch up to the guy holding the CD, what goes around comes around, never have understood the way a lunatic thinks..

Sometimes honey works be better. What if the previous owner would contact buyer with lets say the owner's manual to car, another set of keys or something that goes with the car he traded in.

Give the owner the address of buyer and have him go take to him face to face.

My daughter got her car stolen. Her car was driven to a government low rent housing. Her personal belongings were left on the ground. A resident found daughters name and address. They called to say what they found. I told her my daughter was upset because her leather jacket was taken. It was the last jacket her late mother gave her. The resident that called must have known who took her car, because my daughter got her jacket back. Car was found in a parking lot in town.

I'd go see the guy face to face, maybe agree with him he got a bad deal, but I had nothing to do with it. Talk to his wife if nothing else works.

That man can't get past his own little cruel petty world. He is holding this tape as a sign of power to cover his weaknesses. Also, he obviously has never lost a child. He is beyond cruel.

I think you are painting with too broad a brush to say most Texans are jerks. I have found it is the jerks that really stand out and we remember but the really good ones we remember less. All areas have good and bad.

I worked in the service industry for 47 years and I found most people-not all- but most people appreciated a follow up call. Lots of times customers have a question but are hesitant to call about it but with the fu call they will go ahead and raise it. Lots of times the after sale call keeps a customer for life. To each his own I suppose.

After having been in auto sales for some years, both with my own lot and as a GM salesman, I can tell some interesting stories. But none as heartbreaking as that.

I recall once at the GM dealer, we sold a lady a new Chevy minivan. A week later, she came back, just livid, cussing the van up one side and down the other. By listening closely to her rant, we gathered there was a rattle of some kind in the floor. We had the service department check it out.

They found a jar of pickles rolling around under the passenger seat.

After the years I spent in both auto sales and service, plus having been a Claims Adjuster working vehicle service contracts for ten years, I could write a book. Maybe some day I will.

"You should have given me more for my trade"................if the buyer of the car with the cd in it was unhappy with the amount of money offered in his trade deal, why did he make the deal to begin with?????? When I don't feel I'm getting enough trade in value on something, I walk away!! To withhold someone's sentimental item because he didn't get enough trade in value makes no sense to me........ As many have already said, just plain being mean about it.

When I saw the subject,I thought you had stopped at the flea market near Wilshire Ohio and had to put up with all the golf carts. Great flea market, but way too many lazy, able bodied people who needed to get off their backsides and walk.

I have dealt with folks in sales for the better part of 40 years,,, that Jerk does not care about the CD he just wants to be @ss I would bet a 100 dollar bill he threw it away or broke it already ones like that have no "soul" that is much to talk about sad deal
cnt

Two weeks after the car was traded, the CD was probably thrown in the trash long before the seller missed it. I'm surprised it wasn't found at the dealership when the car was detailed. Your son did what he could, it'll pass.

Your son showed some class......he will be a benefit to the car selling industry. He has had some good training from the home front.

If I had something of great sentimental value, like that CD, you can rest assured that I would have backed that up with multiple CD copies and a thumb disk too!

The buyer was still being a RICHARD about the circumstances though.

The innocent owner of the tape is the one who is being hurt, not the dealer. The buyer is barking up the wrong tree. As was suggested I'll bet the tape is in the trash somewhere, the buyer knows it and is just using it for a bluff.

Willis Haviland Carrier is the cause of any jerks that might be in Texas!

JMOR, you may be right about that. Trying to remember my youthful days out in the intense heat. Seems I rarely ever lost my temper then. Maybe it was all the sweat pouring down kept quenching the anger-flames? *lol*

Now I don't lose my temper as much because it ends up hurting too much afterwards! :(

The disgruntled buyer of the car (the car with the lost CD) IS being a jerk. I have dealt with people, customers, and also the general public for most of my professional working years. I am amazed at the level of impatience, the rudeness, the demands, and a whole host of other behaviors by those who have never, or minimally had to deal with the public when their job/career was dependent upon their ability to work with others. I suspect this "disgruntled" individual probably has not had the experience of working with the public or others. As I have found, 80 percent of the people you can work with, while 10 percent seem to be difficult, and the last 10 percent make you truly earn your pay and impact you to the point where you will complain about your job.

Same thing I was thinking. Hate to wish bad things on people but karma's a beech.
